Chicken Hut Gianicolense Trastevere — Restaurant in Rome

This was truly a once in a lifetime experience, probably because we will never be back. We stumbled off the train in desperate need of some food and alas we saw the golden sign of chicken hut. We were greeted with a small angry man who must’ve blinked twice the whole time we were there. We picked our food from the very expansive menu and sat down. We then proceeded to watch the owner launch over the counter and throw a pigeon into a UFC style submission. He then plucked it and proceeded to fry as if nothing had happened. The other pigeons unbothered by this seemingly regular occurrence continued to run about. We then got our food and begin to open up the bags to discover our chicken was dryer than a cornflake that had fallen to the bottom of the cereal box. Chips were pleasant. The can of Pepsi (which was the only option) came with a straw which was a special touch. Hence I rate it at 2 stars for food. The service was mediocre so I rate it a 1 star. This location may not look like much, but the food is very good. The chicken has some spice to it and is crispy. The bugers are tasty and the salads are quite big. This is not KFC it is actually much better! The crispy chicken sandwich is meaty with mayonnaise, honey-dijon mustard, and a mild BBQ sauce. The hamburger had cheese, mayonnaise, and the same mild BBQ sauce. Update: Ate here again on April 29th prices are the same food is still good. Sono stato da Chicken Hut in zona Trastevere attratto dal concept americano e dalla voglia di qualcosa di sfizioso, diverso dalla solita cucina romana. Il locale ha sicuramente del potenziale, ma ci sono diversi aspetti che andrebbero migliorati.

Il pollo fritto, che dovrebbe essere il punto forte, non mi ha convinto del tutto: croccante sì, ma un po’ asciutto e con una panatura che tendeva a stancare dopo qualche boccone. Le salse disponibili sono buone, ma non sufficienti a dare un’identità forte al piatto. Le patatine erano servite tiepide e poco croccanti, come se fossero state riscaldate e non appena fritte.

Il locale è piccolo, con qualche tavolino all’interno e altri fuori. Durante la mia visita, la pulizia lasciava un po’ a desiderare: tavoli non sparecchiati per diversi minuti e il bagno che avrebbe avuto bisogno di una sistemata. Il personale è stato gentile ma un po’ disorganizzato, e i tempi di attesa per ordinare e ricevere il cibo sono stati piuttosto lunghi nonostante il locale non fosse pieno.

Prezzi nella media per Trastevere, ma considerando la qualità del cibo e il servizio, forse leggermente alti per ciò che viene effettivamente offerto.

In sintesi: un posto con buone intenzioni, ma che avrebbe bisogno di maggiore attenzione alla qualità e all’organizzazione. Non è stata un’esperienza terribile, ma neanche una che consiglierei con entusiasmo. Se migliorano questi aspetti, potrebbe davvero diventare una buona alternativa per un pasto veloce e...
