Review of El Tiburón Nuvona
During our search for authentic Mexican cuisine in Rome, Italy, we came across El Tiburón Nuvona. Eager to satisfy our cravings, we took our time to review the menu.
To start, we ordered the guacamole, which was flavorful and truly reminiscent of traditional Mexican recipes, accompanied by homemade-tasting chips that complemented it well. We also tried the fried yuca fries, which were impressive, although the accompanying sauce was somewhat elusive in flavor, reminiscent of mayonnaise with an indistinct twist.
For the main course, we opted for chicken and beef fajitas. When the dishes arrived, I noticed a small portion of beef garnished with red bell peppers and onions, while my wife's plate featured chicken with similar accompaniments. The meal included Mexican rice, white cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. However, the rice's texture was unfamiliar; it had a slight pasta-like quality and tasted similar to a soup my wife often makes with pasta and a tomato base.
Unfortunately, the flour tortillas did not taste homemade, which was disappointing. When I tasted the beef fajitas, I found the beef overcooked and more akin to steak than the traditional skirt steak typically used for fajitas. The meat had a rubbery texture and lacked flavor. In hindsight, I wish I had ordered the tacos to see if the meat differed.
As someone from Texas, where I have experienced a multitude of authentic Mexican restaurants, my expectations were not met. My experience at El Tiburón Nuvona left me feeling that this attempt at Mexican cuisine in Rome did not quite capture the essence of what I...

From the moment we walked in, the energy of this place felt warm and vibrant. The flavors were authentic, fresh, and bursting with personality — every dish tasted like it was made with care and passion. But what truly made the experience memorable were the people.
Soleil and Anna took care of us, and I can’t say enough about how amazing they were. Friendly, attentive, and full of genuine warmth, they made us feel like old friends instead of just guests. Their smiles, enthusiasm, and impeccable service turned a great dinner into an unforgettable evening. It’s rare to find staff who love what they do and make you feel so welcome, but Soleil and Anna do it effortlessly.
The atmosphere is relaxed but lively — the kind of place where you can unwind, enjoy a great meal, and soak in the fun energy of the Navona area. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, this spot is a refreshing change of pace and a must-visit for anyone who loves bold flavors and true hospitality.
Five stars all the way. Thank you, Soleil and Anna, for making our night special — you’re the heart...
Read moreAfter 10 days across italy we needed a break from various versions of Italian food and this place popped up in our search for alternate cuisines.
Reservations are tough, as you need to call in and there is no proper response des. However we lucked out as the phone was handed over to a person who understood English and were able to secure a reservation for Friday night.
On arrival at 7.30 the place was already full and they needed a few minutes to get us a table. But what followed was wonderful.
We tried their Nachos, four types of tacos, a fajita mains and a sopes and everything hit the spot. The favouring, the cooking, the textures, everything was excellent. On the drinks we liked their Michelada but not their Mexican old fashioned.
The service can be slow and we were told that the next reservation for our table was at 9.30.. which I think was nor called for.. but hey giving them the benefit of doubt.. they were busy.
The decor and ambience was lively and is more reminiscent of tex mex restaurants in the US.
All in all a very fun place with flavourful food, that is truly a good break from the Italian fare you will...
