I’ve lived in Rome for many years and Punto Gelato is the best gelateria I have had found in the city. They obviously use high quality natural products in their ice-creams, though what stands out are their intense gourmet flavours, which don’t rely on food coloring and don’t use excess sugar. Besides the regular run of typical flavours like pistachio and various fruits, they also make some with buffalo milk, which is creamier than regular milk. Lots of their flavours are naturally dairy free, including the extra-fondente dark chocolate, which is exceptional. There’s a delicious salty caramel flavour. They make two extraordinary cinnamon flavors - you can actually see freshly ground cinnamon in the gelato. There’s an incredible honey truffle flavour. A creamy buffalo milk gelato with the subtle taste of ground pink pepper is one of the place’s favorites, and there’s another buffalo milk flavour with lemon, which is also divine. My friend had one flavored with mountain pine. You are offered a free wafer biscuit and whipped cream on top. And even at the smallest size you can choose three flavors. But don’t get the smallest size. The staff are very nice and tolerant about handing out tastes before you finalize your...
Read moreWe spent 6 days in Rome and tried numerous Gelato places. As we were walking back from Trastevere on the second last day my girlfriend went in for her 1 of 2 or 3 gelatos a day 😜 we stood outside and were presented with a lovely smile from the lady inside working. Bless her. Walked in and saw the low laying gelato and dull colours. The signs to look for. While inside deciding what to get there was 3 Italian men of the older generation came in and ordered gelato. Again what more of a sign do you want for it to be good.
Finally made my decision and went with pistachio and peach. My girlfriend went with extra chocolate and vanilla. (Chocolate recommended by a local) OH MY GOD. They were the best gelatos we had all week. Place was clean and the staff were friendly and the cream was to die for. 11/10. Highly recommended. I can't remember how much we paid for 2 piccalo cones. Think it was 7 euro with 2 scoops.
And for me the cone was a treat. All the other places we tried I never liked the come but this place was light and...
Read moreBest gelato we’ve had in Rome - or anywhere else! We’ve tried dozens of locations over our trips to Rome. Really a level up from everywhere else. Great flavors (and we’ve had most of them), so smooth, and consistent quality. There are locations by the Pantheon and this one by Ponte Sisto. (This one used to be called Punto Gelato but was the same Gunther Gelato.) Each location does not have all the same flavors so today I had some from each. (I like mint so I had to go to the Pantheon one for that after lunch.) This evening it was Dark Chocolate (my favorite!), Chocolate Chip, and Carmel. My wife had strawberry (her favorite) and vanilla (a great combo). If you’re going to have gelato - and you care about gelato - in Rome I strongly STRONGLY recommend Gunther. We’ve had gelato at dozens of locations in many countries and this is the best (and we even chose our accommodations to be close to it - we’re serious...
