As with most things in Italy, when it comes to gelato, quality is EVERYTHING. Italians are masters of food and are very particular in the way things are done. For starters, ‘gelato’ is not the Italian word for ‘ice cream.’ It translates to "frozen" or "freeze". It traces its roots all the way back to 1565, and its invention is attributed to a Florentine, Bernardo Buontalenti. It differs from a North American version in that it has more milk and less cream than we are used to and no egg yolks. It is also churned at a slower rate and served at a slightly higher temperature. This all makes gelato denser and smoother than hand-dipped ice cream. Because there is less milk fat, the flavors coat one’s mouth and seem brighter and more intense. During our golf cart tour in Rome, our guide, Achilles, recommended and stopped at Gelateria del Campo by Campo de’ Fiori. The first step to finding top-quality gelato is where many tourists fall victim. Any gelato one’s eating should not be piled up so high that it resembles a mountain. Look for flat metal tins, which may have lids on them. Besides gelato, this establishment has pastries and cakes. My partner, our friends, family member, and I were told they use an old family recipe, and some of us got some frozen treats. They were so creamy with many delicious flavors and the best around. Portions were healthy, and the price was comparable to the area. The staff was friendly. As one plans an Italian trip, remember that gelato is more than just a treat: it’s an experience.

There are dozens of Gelato bars throughout Rome but this one by Campo De’ Fiori is the very best! We were told they use an old family recipe and we have yet to try anything else as delicious as this one. So, so creamy, many delicious favours, and we went back often because nowhere else compared. Staff were exceptionally friendly. Generous servings and reasonable prices. They also have mouth watering pastries and one of the best cappuccinos. Highly recommend!

I saw this ice cream shop on our way to Campo de’ Fiori: it had been a long time since last time I had a real Italian ice cream, so I had to try it. It’s a very small shop with no tables inside, as there is only room for their refrigerators, displaying a vast selection of ice cream flavors, ice cream cakes and pastries. I had a wonderful gelato with chocolate and coconut; the staff is very friendly: I’ll certainly be next time we’re in Rome!

I had the pleasure of visiting this delightful family-run gelateria located in the heart of the city. From the very first moment, you can feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks to the extremely kind and friendly staff. One of the most striking aspects is the generosity with which the portions of gelato are served. It's rare to find a gelateria where you leave truly satisfied, both in terms of quality and quantity! Each flavor is rich, creamy, and seems to be made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The gelateria offers outdoor seating, which makes the experience even more enjoyable, especially on beautiful days. Enjoying a great gelato outside, immersed in the lively atmosphere of the city center, is truly priceless. If you're looking for excellent gelato and impeccable service, this is the...

Good gelato and generous portions.

I’m not going to say that this was the absolute best gelato in the city, but it was very good nonetheless.

The prices were slightly higher than other places I’ve tried, but the portions were very generous for that price, and the flavours were so true to life I can’t explain it. I got banana for example and it wasn’t like that stereotypical banana milkshake flavour, but was instead like biting into a fresh green banana - really enjoyable and unusual. I’d recommend giving it a try if you’re...
