A Horrible Experience – Avoid I usually don’t write negative reviews. If I don’t like a restaurant, I just don’t go back, and I prefer not to waste time reviewing it. But this place was something else entirely—it was such an awful experience that I feel the need to warn others before they make the same mistake. From the moment we arrived, the service was already off-putting. The cashier, who was supposed to welcome us, instead acted rudely. After telling us to find a table, he suddenly started swearing, for no apparent reason. It was an uncomfortable and unprofessional start. The setting itself was far from inviting. The tables were made of flimsy plastic, giving the place a cheap and neglected feel. Instead of proper plates, the food was served on metal trays, like something you would find in a low-budget canteen. It was clear that little effort had been put into making the dining experience even remotely pleasant. Now, the food—if you can even call it that. We ordered pizza, expecting something at least decent in a city like Rome, where good pizza is supposed to be a given. What I got instead was an overcooked disaster. The edges were completely burned, turning into bitter charcoal that crumbled when touched. The rest of the pizza was dry, flavorless, and honestly painful to eat. I also ordered pasta carbonara, hoping for a better experience. The pasta wasn’t just "al dente"—it was outright undercooked, hard in the middle, and unpleasant to chew. On top of that, the dish was overwhelmingly salty, to the point where it was nearly inedible. Instead of a creamy, rich carbonara, I got a poorly cooked mess that left me wondering if the chef had ever tasted the dish before serving it. To make matters worse, the attitude of the staff continued to be appalling. When I went to pay, I politely mentioned that I wanted to use my card. The cashier immediately gave me a disapproving look, almost as if I had insulted him. Then, in an annoyed tone, he asked if I had cash instead. And the price? 42 euros for two pizzas, one pasta, and a bottle of water. For that price, I would expect at least something edible, if not enjoyable. Instead, I left feeling like I had just wasted my money on one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. I honestly don’t understand how this place has positive reviews. Either we were extremely unlucky, or something strange is going on with their ratings. Whatever the case, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. There are so many decent restaurants in Rome—this is definitely not...
Read moreWe had such a rude experience. We had an older man wait on us. I asked him multiple times for the size of the pizzas so that we could figure out how many to order, he snapped back one per person. I said to him that’s not answering our question. He went to the kitchen came back with a pan & dropped it on the table. The size of a plate is a normal question so people can figure out what to order. He didn’t return. We got a 2nd waiter who told us each person had to order a pizza. He rushed us to order. He dropped the pizzas on our table, no utensils or plates. I asked for these. Shortly after dropping our napkins & utensils off, he started clearing the 2nd half of our table. He pushed items out to merge our table with another. With that went the napkins he had just dropped off, they got scrunched up between tables. When he realized it he grabbed the same scrunched up napkins & brought them back to us. I asked him again for the plates after a while he dropped them off. I wish all of this was worth it because we enjoyed the pizza, but that wasn’t the case. I don’t get the high ratings, it tasted like a thin cracker with a little sauce and toppings that hadn’t had time to...
Read moreTerrible experience at Monte Carlo Pizzeria in Rome – avoid at all costs!
Unfortunately, our visit to Monte Carlo Pizzeria in Rome was one of the most unpleasant experiences we’ve had during our travels. On Saturday, November 16th, at 2:50 PM, instead of enjoying our time, we were treated in an unacceptable manner.
From the very beginning, the waiter tried to pressure us into ordering more food, even though we clearly stated we only wanted wine and two appetizers. In a rude and pushy manner, he insisted that “everyone must order a main dish,” which is completely absurd. Despite our firm replies that we weren’t that hungry, he kept pressing us, ruining the entire atmosphere. Eventually, we decided to leave, unwilling to tolerate such behavior.
We’re curious whether this absurd conduct was solely the waiter’s initiative or if it reflects the restaurant owner’s policy. Either way, such treatment of customers is entirely unacceptable. If you’re a tourist, we strongly advise avoiding Monte Carlo Pizzeria. Instead of hospitality and good service, you can expect pressure, upselling tactics, and unpleasant interactions. It’s not worth wasting your time or money at a...
