Very good food, pleasant atmosphere (we stayed outside and it was still great), and very good wine... We waited in a line that might be scary at first, but ended up moving quickly - we stayed for about 45 minutes, I think it's a reasonable amount of time. There were two of us, and we ordered Pizza Baffetto and Pizza Bresaola, and a liter of house red wine, and everything was delicious. Preparation time was also very quick. Now I unfortunately need to warn you about something that we noticed and did not appreciate: the dishonesty of the waiter who served us regarding the payment method 😒. When we were finishing, the table next to us asked for the bill and the same waiter who was serving us, was their waiter, and informed them that payment would only be in cash. The couple at the next table was surprised, and when we listened we were also surprised, after all it is a place that many tourists frequent and payment by card should be common. Anyway, the couple at the next table paid in cash, and we realized that they left the tip for that same waiter. The couple paid with a €50 banknote, and the bill was obviously less than that, because we realized that they only ordered two pizzas and two glasses of wine, so according to our calculations, it was just under €50, which made them pay tip change for the waiter. Because of this, at that exactly moment I started to research the reviews of the place, filtering the searches in relation to “cash payments” and found several complaints from people saying that they were surprised by the information, one review even saying that the waiter said that the system was down, but she insisted that she wanted to pay with a card inside, directly at the cashier, and the attendant accepted it fine. So, it was our time to ask for our bill, we asked for the bill and we said directly that it would be on card. No sooner said than done! The waiter said he only accepted cash, we invented that we had friends who paid by card, he insisted saying that the system was down, we then said we wanted to pay inside, directly at the cash register, until he told us to wait and brought the machine to our table; then we pay by card. Our bill was €38, and when he came with the card machine, he came with €40 to be charged but brought a €2 coin as our “change”. That's when we came to the conclusion that perhaps when the bill comes to less than €40 or something like that, I don't know if it's the restaurant's policy to reinforce this conduct for the waiters, or if it was the waiter's own will, to take the attitude of say that it is just cash (perhaps because above €40 the fees charged on card transactions for establishments are lower, I don't know... as if the sale is a low value, it is not worth it for the restaurant to accept card payment due to fees …). Another theory is that when he “forces” payment to be in cash, it makes it easier for the customer to leave the change as a tip, as was what happened with our table next to us… Anyway, despite the food, this was a bad experience of dishonesty that we did not appreciate. It was our last night in Rome, on our first trip here, and everything until then had been perfect, all the restaurants we had been to so far were incredible to us; and we just wanted to end on a high note. But unfortunately this dropped the grade in relation to our opinion of the place. I'm trying to be fair in this assessment, but lying is something that I don't accept because I understand that it has no justification. Because of this, I don't...
Read moreafter a big lunch and walking all day we wanted a simple, lighter dinner. I Googled "pizza near me" and Da Baffetto came up as highly recommended. We walked over and saw the line out the door, (8pm/20:00) figuring it was worth the wait, 1 of us waited while the other 3 went across the alley to Jack's Abbey for a drink. Most places in Rome will give you a "To Go" drink in a plastic cup so we waited on line with our wine. What better way to wait in Rome! Less than 20 minutes later the host walked down the line looking for a group of 4 as everyone in front of us was a table of 2. We were seated out front and noticed the waiter was very harried but working hard. Listen, you're in Rome, enjoy the atmosphere. The waiter will get there. Looking around we realized the pizzas are SUPER thin and crispy. Not what we expected. We ordered some Roman style crostini and a 1 ltr carafe of the house red for 10eur (always a safe choice in Italy) it came in a beautiful porcelain carafe. The medium is perfect as a personal pizza. I got the Da Baffetto, (multiple topping, not too much, just enough for flavor with an over easy egg in the center) my son got one with prosciutto and my wife and daughter shared a margherita. WOW. In NJ, we would consider this style a "bar pie" They were light, thin and crispy yet chewy, cooked well done and super tasty. We had to slow down, we were eating too fast. 2 orders of crostini (8 pieces) 2 medium and 1 large pie. 1ltr of red wine and a qtr ltr of white came to around 75euro. Inside is cramped and bustling in a good way and you can watch the pizzas being made. Outside is typical Roman in a pedestrian area with a mix of bars, restaurants and a gelateria. If you want a different pizza experience while in Rome, then Da Baffetto is definately...
Read moreAh my friends, you thought I forget about your service 15th February 2025 around 5 o'clock. I was that man with black hat that came to your restaurant.
First of all from onset you could tell they didn't have any customer service skills, I don't think it was personal but their demeanor was extremely rude, it was as if they were paying me to eat there. Nevertheless I was curious to try this place as I was meant to go to another one and unfortunately due to time sensitive issue I decided to settle for here.
I told the big, bald waiter that I wanted the best pizza and he gave me their "Special" which contained artichoke , and some sausage (I've attached the picture). I changed my mind about having sausage, and wanted eat Margherita instead, but ofcourse they didn't want to change it, so they decided to take the sausage from my original instead of making me a Margherita.
As another user on here mentioned, the Pizza is dry as a cardboard and burnt on the edges, the arthichokes didn't taste good at all, it was waste of €15, especially since I literally had 2 bites, maybe three - i've surpressed it out of my mind, its quiet painful to remember. To make it worse, it was pigeon bites, none of that big boy Luis Suarez bite. I told them 'Check', and they didn't even offer to make me a new one or apologise, they were extremely smug and let me walk out of there, if people read this, please avoid it.
I hope I cost them your custom, the way they cost my wallet.
If you still decide to try this place, then I wish you my luck and I hope you're alive to...
