With a day of sightseeing, my wife and I knew that we were going to need to sit and refuel with some fantastic Roman-inspired Italian food. Off a side street in the Middle of Rome, it almost blends into the street. Be careful or you might miss it. And trust us you don’t want to miss it. When we walked into Mimi e Coco, we noticed that the outdoor seating basically doubled the amount of space they had! With it being a quaint space, there were maybe 12 tables combined indoors and outdoors. We were lucky enough to snag an indoor table before they had to start taking names to wait for a table. We immediately ordered a red wine (Lambrusco) & an Aperol Spirtz. The red wine complimented my plates well while my wife found out real quick that Aperol Spirtz is not her drink of choice. We ordered the Rosemary focaccia and it had a lot of snap to it. With a generous portion fo Rosemary, you couldn’t go wrong with a snappy & crunchy rosemary focaccia bread. We made sure to save some of this bread for our entrees. The wife loved dipping the bread into her lasagna bolognese. I could tell she adored pairing her bread with the rich sauce. Definitely a winning combo. Also she said this place had the best Italian food (excluding pizza & gelato) in Rome that we experienced on our trip. Her lasagna tasted the freshest and she loved how all of the notes in the lasagna worked well together. I ordered the spinach & ricotta ravioli (covered in a tomato sauce) and absolutely loved it. The anticipation I had for a hearty tomato sauce was immediately put on pause. This was a thin and delicate sauce with sprinkles of parmigiana to help bring it together. The thin sauce assisted the ravioli’s tenderness while not being too much. I was afraid it might be a little floppy, but it was far from it. Texture wise was perfect. The filling was ample with pockets of spinach delivered via a rich ricotta cheese being found in every bite. There we’re no mistakes with this dish. Upon getting the check, they delivered two shots of Jager (one for each of us) as a “customary thank you”. Nice touch and a great end to a wonderful pitstop for lunch at Mimi e Coco. Make sure to maximize your time in Italy & get here early to snag a table!

This is one of the best restaurants in Rome. We ate two times there, both at lunch, and the price was fair, we paid 50€ for 2 pastas, a lambrusco, an aperol, and a tiramisu. The carbonara is one of the best carbonara that me and my wife ever ate, the flavour was rich and juicy, the flavor of the pork fat really elevated the plate, working well together with the pecorino and yolk, she paired her plate with a lambrusco. The lasagna was obscene, it's pasta was al dente and the combination of prosciutto and cheese, covered by pecorino, was delicious, one of the best I've ever had, I paired it with aperol. The ravioli was good, the salsa was very tasty, but it was also very simple, my wife paired it with lambrusco. Tasty, but not much to be said. The ammatriciana was delicious, they work very very well with prosciutto in this restaurant and I believe that every plate with it is amazing, I even ordered bread to scrape every bit of salsa from my plate, I paired it with aperol. One thing to take into consideration is that all these plates are on the salty side, I genuinely recommend having them with something to drink, ideally on the sweet side. You can also order, for free, a fresh bottle of water. Last, we also ordered a tiramisu on the first meal, but not on the second: it was a bit plain, lacking biscuit and coffee. Tiramisu is a delicate combination, and theirs is a bit lackluster, not compatible with their quality.

We‘ve been here twice last year with the family and enjoyed all the pasta, food and service a lot. That‘s also why I wanted to visit Mimi e Coco again. Had been disappointed this time though: the Carbonara wasn‘t as good as I‘ve remembered from last year (I would even have considered it as one of the best Carbonara I have ever tried before). Although, I already mentioned that I know what I want to order, they handed me the menue and I had to wait for 15 minutes just to place my order. (Had more than enough time to select while waiting to be seated before). Apart from the spaghetti being OK this time, it bothers me most if a waiter wants to abuse the guests kindness. I payed my 20€ bill in cash and only had 25€ in notes. Although I have clearly stated 22€, the waiter just took the 25€, said thank you looking at the ground and went away. I was in a hurry and didn‘t want to start arguing. Even though if it was not on purpose, it leaves a bad taste. He could have looked into my face re-assuring that I was willing to leave a 25% tip which is enormous! Clearly trying to avoid eye contact instead tells me he took the 5€ tip on purpose, knowing that he kept too much. Deducting stars accordingly…

We loved it. No better way to start our first meal in Rome but at Mimi e Coco. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer, carbonara, and lasagna. I realized how badly I was missing out on fresh authentic Italian pasta when I had my first bite here--it was amazing. The pasta and lasagna were cooked perfectly and the lasagna was probably some of the best I've had. The bruschetta was mid, but we came for the pasta. The place is very small and intimate. We were seated close to the people next to us. So much so, they confused our order with theirs. We got their drink orders and their focaccia appetizer. For the record, we thought that the focaccia was a pre meal bread basket and their drinks were similar to ours. It wasn't until our neighbors made a comment that we got the same order as them that we realized we were getting their order. We notified the staff and all was fixed. They didn't charge us for their mistake, which was appreciated. Overall, I'd say, come and get some amazing pasta. Be prepared to wait in line outside if it's busy bc they do not take reservations. And be ready to make friends with your table neighbors as you will be sitting extremely close to them.

Wine bar Mimi e Cocò is high energy yet also pleasantly relaxing. The music — a mix of jazz and Italian sounds — is loud and good-spirited (inside) like an old-time Italian café but not so loud as to dominate conversation. We were easily able to have discussions over the music and even speak to neighbouring tables; a group of young women from Turkey was at the next table over, and in general there seem to be far more tourists than Italians at this café-restaurant. We liked the food a lot, although it was simple, with flatbreads (a sort of non-saucy pizza) and salads with very fresh ingredients like Buffalo mozzarella and arugula, fresh tomatoes, Gorgonzola and even delicious sautéed artichokes. Of course, if you are looking for more serious fare, you could try the second plates, but we never got there because we were so filled up with the homemade bread in the flat breads, which are delicious and seasoned perfectly. This is a very enjoyable place to spend an hour or two, with our only complaint being that the service was a little bit chaotic. But that is in the nature of the good fun this café delivers.

We had pinsa romana (a kind of Italian pizza) and spaghetti carbonara with prosecco. Both the pizza and the spaghetti were incredibly delicious. I had carbonara in many different places in Rome but none of them were really as good as the one I had in a restaurant in my beloved country Turkey. We paid around 45-48 euros for 2 people in total. I had heard that the lasagna of this restaurant was very good, but while we were waiting in line in front of the restaurant, one of the tables received the famous lasagna, it looked incredibly delicious and it looked quite small. We couldn't taste that little lasagna because we were too hungry :)) The restaurant is tiny, the tables are very cramped, a classic of Rome, but the atmosphere and ambiance was very nice. There was a very friendly waiter, and in general the other waiters were helpful and attentive too. I will definitely come here again on my next trip to Rome and I will try their different flavors. I definitely recommend you to go, it is a place worth trying :)
