We were recommended this place by the bike tour we took, we had great expectation for our last dinner in Rome, but unfortunately I have to say we were very disappointed. The service was not very kind, the name of the place is amici which in Italians means friends but they were not very friendly. We were greeted by a server who was very sarcastic and even rude. We asked if we could sit by the window and he said no making some sarcastic rude comments. When it was time to order, I asked him if they could make some plain gnocchi because my friend’s kid didn’t like gnocchi Al ragù and he declined saying that it was too much work for the kitchen and that was so weird. I mean I am Italian and I worked in a restaurant before, I don’t see how hard it is to put some oil after the gnocchi are cooked instead of adding ragù. Anyways, after that we got served our pasta and it was so salty that we were not able to eat more than a couple of spoonfuls. I told him and he said it was normal due to the pecorino cheese (we ordered cacio e Pepe and pasta alla grigia), however my friend who ordered seafood pasta found it too salty, too. Once again I had to discuss with him, and finally we got our dishes changed for some lasagne and melanzane alla parmigiana which were okay. In this case, I appreciated that the server did that and didn’t charge the too salty pasta dishes. Then, when we got home I felt so sick all night. I don’t know if that was the salty pasta or what, but it never happened in other restaurants in Rome or elsewhere. So, overall our experience was not good and I am afraid I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. I hope this review would be helpful for the restaurant to be more friendly and improve their...
Read moreMade a reservation because of the amazing reviews. My boyfriend and I were so excited to try this restaurant.
We were served pieces of bread at the beginning. Bread was really hard and not much flavour. We didn’t like it.
Fiore di zucca ripieno di mozzarella e alici (squash flower stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies) This tasted like a light fried dough with a bit of vegetables, and some slightly sour soft cheese. We did not enjoy it and did not finish it.
Fritto de calamari Batter was okay. Wasn’t flavourful, very lightly salted. The squid was quite rubbery. Lemon slice provided looked old. Only good thing was that it was freshly fried.
Cacio e pepe If you really like cheese, like stinky cheese, you’ll like this. It was too much cheese for me - and I love cheese! I didn’t taste the black pepper, the cheese was overpowering.
Rigatoni alla carbonara The sauce was very very yellow, not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be. This was better than the cacio e pepe, but still wasn’t very good. The flavour wasn’t there. One positive: there was a good amount of sauce…
The servers were nice. When asked if we liked the food, we said it was ok. The manager(?) asked us for feedback and we gave him our honest opinion. Perhaps the food is to other people’s taste as the manager was surprised by our disappointment. The place was clean, atmosphere was nice, and the servers were polite. The food was just a miss for us and we didn’t...
Read moreI told a female server that the pasta she brought out was undercooked — the center was still hard. She immediately dismissed me and said, “That’s impossible. All our food is fully cooked.” I said “But it’s still hard.”Then she added, “This is a you problem, not our problem.” I swear this is what she said verbatim. I was shocked.
I asked for her name, and she replied, “You don’t need to know my name. I’m not telling you.” I asked if there was any need to speak to a customer like that, and she just ignored me, whispered the b-word at me, mouthing it silently without sound.
I asked, “Are you calling me a b?” and she completely ignored me, turned away to answer the phone, and avoided eye contact on purpose.
The rest of the food was okay, but I genuinely don’t understand how this kind of behavior is acceptable. If you’re a tourist and happen to get a dish that isn’t to your liking or you just want to ask a question — this is the kind of response you might...
