We couldn't get a table at Nonnarella or Tonnarello at 8:30pm on a Friday of course, so we thought we'd wander and came across Il Duca. They had free tables and the food looked good, so we went there. That was a great move. The food was hearty and tasty, the service was fast, and the place was soon completely full with a nice atmosphere. To start we had a bruschetta pomodoro, fried courgette stuffed flower and fried buffalo mozzarella. The bruschetta was amazing, probably the best we've had in Rome, the tomatoes were gorgeous! We also enjoyed the fried mozzarella, which was super juicy and moreish. Our mains were the tagliatelle funghi and gnocchi with mussels, both of which were absolutely delicious. Especially the gnocchi, which was eaten in seconds... Exactly 6 minutes! Yum!

Where do I even start. There's so much wrong things that happened during the dinner service that I could write a novel about it. First off, we were asking politely if its ok to walk-in without any reservation and the waiter dismissed us right away always immediately telling us "get in line!". If it weren't for what appears to be the manager/owner seeing us, we would have been waiting for nothing. We were asked whether we will have dinner or just drink. He proceeds to usher us in a different corner inside the restaurant where they have some of the big groups dining. It didn't bother me so much, but if you're looking for an intimate dinner, then don't go here. The people can be very roudy and it was very noisy. The service was abysmal. I'm not even gonna try to sugarcoat it, it's as if they just want to take your money and be done with you. There was a particular waiter who was, unfortunately, assigned to our table, and he literally throws everything off to your table. No finesse whatsoever. He even slammed a dessert menu on our table WHILE he was pissed at another table of god knows what. He does not speak so well English, which again is not a big problem, but he proceeds to make conclusions of what you are asking for. The food was nothing extraordinary. And we asked for a steak that's well done. It arrived medium rare. We called the waiter to ask it ti be recooked and instead he proceeds to say it's well done. To prove his point more, he calls another waiter to ask him to agree. It was completely uncalled for and i feel sorry for how he was treating the other waiters who seem to just be tolerating his attitude also The only star i give is for Jeffrey, who was the only polite waiter that tried to meet our demands despite how busy dinner service was. He apologized for his colleague and helped make it up to us by correcting his mistakes Spare yourself the trouble and dont dine at Il Duca.

Thanks to my Italian friend’s recommendation, I went to the restaurant for the first time at 18.30 when it was just opened on a Wednesday and everything was so nice. The carbonara and mushroom soup was one of the best that I have had. We came back for the second time the day after and it was completely the opposite. Even though we were in line and announced ourselves to the host when we arrived, he sat 3 groups of the same size before us because they were speaking Italian. The restaurant was busy so it was understandable that it was going to take a bit of time but the waiter did not inform us anything about the time or how long. We waited 45 minutes or so before getting the food and had to ask multiple times to get the olive oil, balsamic, salt and some plates to the table to eat the bread with. When the food finally came, even though we ordered the big soup for starter to share and then pastas, fish and calamari for mains, 2 out of 5 came. My friend’s pasta was already cold by the time mine arrived 20 minutes later, and the fish another 20 minutes after. Our water bottle was empty and no-one came to ask for another one. For the 2 visits, I give this place a 3 out of 5.

My husband John and I visited Rome. We went to dine here last night, and tonight. This is the very best Italian Restaurant we have ever been to.The waitresses and waiters Maitre D Hitel, the clerk at front desk spoke impeccable English. I was particularly impressed with the level of friendly, genuinely attentive, kind, caring staff who truly I highly recommend. Their helpfulness was incredible, their knowledge of the good their excellent manners excellent experience and service is amazing. We had an incredibly positive heartwarming genuine wonderful experience both times.I highly highly recommend this family owned and run, beautiful soul and hearts people Italian food is absolutely perfect to us.Tess McNamara Perth Western Australia 🇦🇺

Honestly, a bummer. We had this place referred to us and we were super excited to get a table so easily on a Friday night after reading through the great reviews. We ordered the fried rice ball and mozzarella balls as apps and our pasta and fish came out first. When we mentioned we never received our antipasti, they were then brought out cold to us and not taken back or off the check. The seafood gnocchi was delicious….but we got a weird cut of the “Roman cod” dish where we couldn’t pull half the fish off the skin. We asked for a dessert and wine menu and never got it and they continued to ask for our dishes (while we were still eating) so they could turn the table over. Showed potential, but service ruined the overall experience.

This was our first time in Rome and we found out that people wait in line, way before the opening time even, outside a few restaurants trying to eat there. So to eat something, we ended up at this little place, which was not full by the time we got there. I liked the fact that I was not spoken to directly in English as in many places, they spoke to us in Italian and followed along with our attempts (but they do speak it). I had the cacio e pepe and my husband had the filete di manzo al aceto balsamico. I wouldn’t say it was extraordinary, but it was a pretty solid meal and very enjoyable overall. Skip the silly lines and have dinner here!
