Tucked away in a quiet corner of Rome, Lume - Osteria alle Scalette blew us away with its refined creativity, warm service, and stunning attention to detail. From the moment we sat down, the experience felt personal — when we casually mentioned sharing the risotto, the kitchen took the initiative to plate it as two individual servings without us even asking. That kind of thoughtful service sets the tone.
We kicked off with the eggplant parmigiana and beef tartare, and both were phenomenal. The eggplant was a standout — so rich and flavorful, with a meaty texture that had us ready to order a second. The tartare was delicate, fresh, and seasoned just enough to let the quality of the beef shine.
For mains, we had the rabbit and pork fillet — both cooked beautifully, tender and juicy, with just the right doneness. They paired perfectly with a crisp, refreshing salad that balanced the richness of the meats.
The risotto deserves a special mention — made with a deeply flavorful seafood or prawn broth that was unforgettable. Silky, rich, and comforting in the best way.
We ended the meal with a white chocolate yoghurt dessert that was light, creamy, and absolutely the right call — a clean, elegant finish to an indulgent meal.
The wine list is well-curated and reasonably priced, with plenty of great options to pair with the food. Lume feels like one of those rare spots where every element — the flavors, the service, the vibe — comes together effortlessly. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended by our hotel front desk and it was a pleasant delight eating here! The servers were incredibly welcoming and helpful when we asked our many questions. Our waiter first brought us a free little “chef’s treat” that was like nothing I had ever tried before- so delicious! Next for the food we ordered our family of four got 3 of the “first plates” and 2 main dishes, along with one of their special pastas. All of the items we ordered were very good and the perfect portion! We were tempted to order more but we were all stuffed, so we just got a dessert to finish off our dinner. The tiramisu dessert was quite unique and also just as tasty as the other dishes we had tried this dinner. Overall this restaurant was the best place that we’ve tried in Italy so far on our little vaca and we’re going again tonight for more!
Note: we got a reservation for when the restaurant opened which was a good idea because the place is quite small,...
Read moreI had ravioli from this place and it was undercooked! That’s soo pathetic! Never had an undercooked pasta in my entire life. The taste was absolutely miserable. I am not sure why the ratings are soo high! The woman serving didn’t even ask us how the food was. She was asking everyone though. Maybe she sensed we didn’t like the food. A restaurant that wouldn’t ask for a review will never be able to rectify things. Anyhow, there are better places. Don’t waste your time and money on this one.
Reply- The plates were empty because we don’t waste food and believe it is disrespectful to do so. And moreover the girl who was serving didn’t ask us when she came to the table. She did ask the table right next to us. She just said Thank you for dining and ended the conversation. So there was no room for communication. And moreover it was definitely undercooked. Maybe yes 1/5 chances but it still did happen. As someone with knowledge of cooking I am pretty sure that...
