Unfortunately, our experience at Ristorante dei Musei in Rome was quite disappointing.
Right after we sat down, a bottle of water was placed on our table without anyone asking if we wanted it or what kind we preferred.
We ordered carbonara, lasagna, and cacio e pepe. The carbonara was edible, though the bacon was very fatty and not well-trimmed. One nice touch was the grated Parmesan brought to the table — we could add as much as we wanted, free of charge. However, the lasagna was overcooked, and the mozzarella was either missing or completely tasteless — hard to say if it was even there.
Then things started to get strange!
When I initially tried to order dessert along with the main courses, the waiter vaguely dismissed the request, saying something along the lines of "you'll order that later," and didn’t actually take the order. Along with the pasta, they brought out a small plate of roasted potatoes, meat, and vegetables as a "compliment from the restaurant" — served at the same time as the pasta.
After finishing the rather large portion of pasta, I decided I did want dessert, but asked if I could order it to go. The waiter abruptly said “no” and insisted he would bring it now — without even asking if I still wanted it or whether I wanted to eat it there. Very strange communication and lack of basic courtesy. We eat the Napoleon for dessert, but unfortunately, it had absolutely nothing in common with a real Napoleon. Definitely not worth it.
Then came the most frustrating part. After the dessert, I asked for the bill — instead of bringing it, the waiter put a bottle of limoncello on the table and said it was a complimentary treat. I asked for the bill again, and this time they brought out four slices of watermelon, again saying it was a free gift from the restaurant and “everything is fine.” Only after all of this, we finally got the bill — and guess what? The “complimentary” limoncello was listed and charged at €10.
Overall, I do not recommend this place if you're looking for a tasty dishes and honest...
Read moreGot to this resto because of the reviews but was disappointed. The vibe and atmosphere was friendly but service was poor. There was nobody assigned to sit people. Customers are standing by, waiting and looking for open tables. We saw open tables so we just asked one of the staff to sit us. As we sat, we were given dry, cold slices of bread. I saw other tables have olive oil, balsalmic vin, salt and pepper. We weren't served any for a while until I just finally asked for it.Maybe I thought they were just busy since it's the peak of lunch time. We ordered our food and it came out fast. I thought, that was nice. But none of the food were hot. All of them came out barely warm including the pizza. Oh, we didn't even get utensils! We just used the serving spoon and fork that came in with the pasta and meat, both in a pan that we ordered. The pan was just for presentation, I don't think they really cooked the food in them. It's a family owned restaurant, so I see teen agers helping out. It was fine but none of them really had a specific job to do, so they just wait to be told by one of the adult family staff for instructions, but that adult has his hands full from taking orders, looking at what tables don't have, getting the bill, etc . I see some customers don't get this, some don't get that. There should be staff that's assigned to do one thing specific so basics/essentials for a proper meal service will be received. Not a place I would like to...
Read moreAfter visiting the Vatican Museum, we came out for dinner. This restaurant had a high number of reviews on the google map, so we chose to go to this restaurant. When we entered the restaurant, a waiter asked us to wait for a while, and we stood outside and waited, because the restaurant was also messy outside and there were few people waiting. A new guest went straight in and the waiter found a table for her to sit on. At this time, I thought that maybe when they were busy and didn't notice that we were still waiting, so we continued to wait. And then another white couple came. They asked us if we were waiting, we said yes and they stood behind us. At this time, another male waiter saw them and directly found a place for them to sit. The white couple emphasized to the waiter that we came first, but the waiter completely ignored these words. The couple was very friendly and repeated at least 3 times! But the male waiter still asked them to sit down first. The couple looked at us apologetically, and the male waiter had been passing the dishes and ignored us since we entered the store. I thought he was just passing the dishes and ignored the guests, but I didn't expect such two faces. Later, we left the restaurant without saying anything and went to another place to eat. We didn't want to speculate on why he treated customers differently, but it was unreasonable for this kind of thing to...
