This was our second trip to Obica Mozzarella Bar. Our first experience was okay even though the waiter was not a professional and served us the incorrect meal. The food made up for the poor service and we thought that we should give them another chance today. Well that was a big mistake. Based on Today’s experience we will not return. First of all the waiter sat us at a table near the payment counter were we experienced group after group paying individually for their meal, mulling around us as we sat at our table. We asked to move to another table and the response was hands extended grunt. We moved tables much to the disapproval of the waiter who had to set another table for us. As we sat there waiting for our order to be taken we were amazed at the number of tables that had not been cleared of used crockery, cutlery, glass and empty bottles. I asked the waiter if they had been busy and he said no just that we had chosen the wrong table. Maybe if he had directed us as to which table he would like us to sit at this may have not been an issue for him. As we waited a staff member, Chef, asked if we had ordered, our response was no, she then asked the waiter to take our order. We ordered two first courses, one mussels and one octopus and a pizza as a main to share. You won’t believe this but all the food came out together. When we received our meals, the food was on the verge of being cold. At this stage all we wanted to do was leave but we were determined to try the food we had ordered. The mussels were okay but the octopus was inedible (texture of a superball ) The taste of the pizza was okay but again was verging on cold. Don’t be fooled by other reviews, staff are not trained to serve the public and are not interested in providing quality service or experience. The whole time we were there we felt like we were not welcome and it showed even up to the time of paying the bill where we were ignored by the manager while he conversed with other staff members.
Please avoid Obica Roma unless you like being insulted by unprofessional...
Read moreUnlike most Americans who visit the Eternal City, we live here half the year and have for nearly two decades. We own an apartment, speak Italian fluently and dress and act in a way that is consonant with the conservative Roman ethos. Over the years, we've eaten at far more restaurants than we could ever recall and our dining experiences have, more often than not, been quite good, if not always spectacular.
In past experiences at Obika, we've noted the slow and somewhat erratic service problems, but shrugged them off because the food is acceptable and the price not prohibitive. That said, over our last few visits, the service has continued to degrade until today when we experienced what unquestionably was the WORST treatment we have ever received in an Italian restaurant.
Apparently, the wait staff at Obika is chosen more for their ability to strike a pose or shift some attitude than for doing the simple, if unglamorous job of taking and serving orders. While we were quickly seated at a table in the uncrowded patio, it nevertheless took more than ten minutes to receive a menu and then not with any special courtesy. I suppose we could have forgiven that long wait if we'd ever had the expectation of seeing our waiter again, but then he spent the next twenty minutes assiduously doing everything he could to avoid us and/or our vicinity. He was a very busy boy clearing off empty tables, chit-chatting with other (unoccupied) colleagues and generally looking as off-put and over-stressed as he could manage. As noted, we lasted twenty minutes in our frozen place of solitude before 'getting the idea' and making a quick, if not especially noble exit to a restaurant that actually...
Read moreMy first experience at the restaurant was ok but the second was really bad! I made a pre-order for a large table several days before the dinner and the person who wrote everything down completely disregarded this at the day of a dinner making my guests wait for an aperitivo plates for 1 hour. Also said that it was a misunderstanding blaming me for not speaking Italian, even though when i was making a pre-order he wrote down everything that i chose from the menu. Very disrespectful and managed to be rude to me saying that we are not the only table to serve when i approached him after waiting for 1 hour for our aperitivo plates (not even meal) ???? Really ruined my evening as it was a special event that day!! If you dont know how to serve foreigners right in the touristic center of Rome maybe dont serve there??? Btw, The food was average, not something to wait...
