As I can see on the comments, someone else had also the same terrible experience with this hotel. I booked a room through booking in a very good price (50% discount) with the ability to pay on the arrival and with free cancellation. 1 month before my travel to Rome they canceled my booking saying that my card was declined. Before the cancellation, I followed the guidelines of booking and replaced the card with another one. The second card according to the hotel was also problematic and I replaced it with a third one while I was asking for an IBAN in order to make the transaction and to be sure for my reservation. They never answered to my emails and my calls. They just canceled my reservation. Booking told me that they had also difficulties to come in contact with this hotel. Meanwhile my room was sold for a better price to another „lucky“ visitor. I have all the proof for this behavior, all the unanswered emails. There are no excuses.
UPDATE: Please don't try to convince us of your rightness by writing this comment to 16 different people who suffered exactly the same thing and wrote their comment here. I know far better than you if my 3 different credit cards were valid or not and I know also the fruitless attempts I made to contact you, and so does booking.com and the unanswered emails. All of this is on record. This is not a common hotel cancellation policy around the world as you write, but your own policy to make more money by cancelling offers for less money and reselling them for more.

Firstly, and most important, I decided to pay with different cards for my pre authorization and the actual payment. Usually, pre authorization freezes the amount of money and is then immediately released. It is not a charge since there has been no transfer, which is the reason it is called that way. Moreover, when I paid the actual amount with my other card, the initially amount of the pre authorization did not return to me and still has not. My bank told me that this was not a pre authorization but instead a refund which will either take 8 business days or even 30 days. The hotel misled me thinking that this was a pre authorization (i.e. instant money release upon actual payment), as there was no warning that in case of paying with different cards the freeze amount usually takes some days to be returned.
Secondly, I would not say that the rooms were dirty, but for its price it was not clean either. Our sheets had stains (when we told the reception he tried to blame us, but then he sent someone to change them). The room had lots of dust, maybe pollen or maybe from the stone on the walls that caused us allergies during the nights (the stones also had a bizarre humid like odor).

Read moreWhen booking this hotel, I had a some doubts: the reviews on Google aren't excellent and I am the type of traveler who reads all the reviews. However, I was extremely satisfied with my stay.
The hotel crew is kind and helpful, they treated us very well and were of great help when needed.
The rooms are very nice! We slept very well, the mattress and cushions are perfect. The rooms are located as part of a building but there is a special access for the hotel guests. The building itself is very clean and honestly beautiful. It gives you a very nice amount of privacy, as if you were a local in Rome but had your hotel room hidden in the building. We loved it.
The location is INCREDIBLE! We did nothing but walk literally everywhere and could always go back to the hotel for a nap or for a little rest without any problem. The location is a luxury.
You may want to readjust your expectations regarding the breakfast: I read the reviews so already knew what the breakfast was about. I wasn't disappointed by it. It's not the typical buffet-style breakfast hotel, so please don't come with these expectations or else you'll be disappointed. It's a menu where you can choose a hot drink, eggs, bread, a sweet selection, juice, yoghurt and fruits etc. To us it felt awesome as it was the only opportunity to eat healthy we had 😂
