Where do I begin with the gastronomic saga that is Ornelli Black Angus Steakhouse? This Rome-based gem offers an incredible dining experience, with sumptuous servings of steaks, tacos, chips and mashed potatoes that guarantee to whet the appetite of even the most discerning connoisseur.
My culinary adventure started with the ribeye steak – a revelation, to say the least. Perfectly rendered fat, paired with an impeccably formed crust, tantalised my taste buds with each bite. The clever addition of a cube of seasoned beef tallow set a divine symphony in motion in my mouth. Spread over the steak, the tallow enriched the overall experience, raising the bar of savouriness to an unimaginable level. I couldn't help but commend the chefs for their exquisite attention to detail and their mastery of the cooking process.
My wife sampled the T-bone steak, a behemoth cut that we found ample enough to share between her and our son. The steak arrived pre-sliced – a thoughtful gesture on the restaurant’s part that significantly eased the sharing process. I was told the T-bone was a match made in heaven with the buttery, fluffy mashed potatoes that our son devoured with utter delight.
Our daughter opted for tacos, and what an astounding choice that was! Utilising off-cuts from dry-aged steaks, Ornelli presented us with a unique twist on a classic dish. Every bite of the taco was an explosion of flavour – a testament to the restaurant's ingenious use of their top-notch ingredients.
And let's not forget the chips! Brits and Americans alike will relish these golden-brown, crispy delights. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to a faultless crunch, the chips added a wonderful texture variation that rounded off the meal perfectly.

Read moreOur visit to Ornelli Steakhouse (July 29, 2023 ) was a complete letdown. The restaurant's treatment of our family and their lack of professionalism were inexcusable. I would strongly advise anyone with children to think twice before dining at this establishment. They clearly do not value families and lack the compassion and understanding necessary for providing a positive dining experience. We visited the Ornelli black angus restaurant on July 29, 2023. My husband and I arrived with our children, ages 2.5 and 5, hoping to enjoy a nice dinner together. However, from the moment we walked in, it was clear that the restaurant was not family-friendly. They suggested us to sit outside claiming they were fully booked (it appeared later, they were not). My 2.5-year-old daughter became hungry and frustrated, and when we went to the bathroom, she started crying. The regular life situation turned to absurd, when the restaurant manager, Mary, opened the bathroom door and asked me to quiet my child, claiming she was disturbing other guests. Instead of showing understanding or empathy, Mary displayed an outrageous lack of sensitivity. I was shocked and didn't know how to respond, so we rushed back to our table outside. Mary then followed us, closing the door of the restaurant behind her, as if trying to isolate us from other diners. My daughter continued crying for a few more minutes outside, and despite seeing the distress she was in, Mary approached us again, asking us to silence her. It was an appalling display of insensitivity and lack of consideration for young children and their needs. “You can go if you want” - this is the only offering she did for us, instead of offering any help, or any kid-friendly staff. The things calmed down once the food was served and when we finished the dinner Mary approached us for the third time with no single effort to make amends or offer any form of apology. No discounts, no complimentary items, not even a simple gesture to acknowledge her mistake. The only thing she said was “I didn’t want to fight with you, I only asked to make your baby silent”, like if she was talking about some gadget that I had to put on mute urgently.
This experience was a stark contrast to the restaurant's supposed reputation as one of the best steakhouses in Italy. Save yourself the disappointment and look for a more welcoming and customer-oriented...
Read moreThis was my Father and I second visit to this restaurant. We were there last year and enjoyed a fabulous meal with excellent service. This time, not so good. Starting from the number of messages to confirm our reservation, either by WhatsApp or email, which I find excessive. However, that is a minor point. When we reserved the table, for 7.45, during the process, it was clear we needed to return the table by 9.15. A strange request, I thought, but it's a busy restaurant and they have a lot of customers. So whilst I found it strange, it didn't put me off. Because of the stern nature of the communication and our desire to enjoy our evening at this restaurant, we arrived at around 7.35. We were seated immediately, and the waiting staff were very quick and efficient to take our order. We didn't take any starters. A very simple, if expensive order of steak and fries, with some salad plus a bottle of wine. As with a lot of diners, my father and I were not in a rush. We wanted to enjoy the experience, so when the meal didn't arrive till around 8.25, it didn't upset us. As is customary, the wine arrived a few minutes before. My father really enjoyed his rib-eye steak. However, I took the wagyu, which, if I'm honest, was underwhelming. There is nothing wrong, but not the spectacular meat experience of the previous visit. Up until this point, all good. When we had finished our meal, the plates were removed almost immediately. We were asked if we wanted desert, we replied just a coffee. We were then asked if we could settle the bill as they needed the table. We still had wine left. We then realised that it was 9.18. The staff wanted the table back. We looked around and there were other empty tables which made us feel very unwelcome. We finished our coffee and our wine, then we paid and left. I don't usually leave negative reviews, I hesitated to leave this, but we were so disappointed that what should have been a lovely evening...
