We’ve returned to Trattoria Morgana a few times since moving to Rome and every time it has been a delicious adventure in new tastes. Once I realized how skillful the chef was, I tried some foods that were outside my comfort zone and I was rewarded with a new and exciting experience, one that I’ve revisited multiple times. This evening we brought some family that were visiting because we trusted that it would be a very good experience, and it was.
To be polite to the other people in our party, I only took a few pictures, but I hope that they can convey the quality of a few of the dishes we enjoyed. First was the wine. They have a great, deep wine list and while we normally prefer white wines during the summer, the last time we were here I enjoyed a red wine that really spoke to me. I found the picture I saved on my phone and confirmed with the waiter they were still offering it, so we broke with tradition and enjoyed a red.
My appetizer was the octopus on a bed of hummus. This is one of the new dishes that I tried in the past and I was very excited to eat again. The description of the hummus is that it was made with ceci, but it is so creamy and smooth that I was certain it was made with a white bean. It’s obvious that I need to improve my skills when making hummus at home. The octopus had been the biggest surprise because this is something I had only ordered at asian restaurants in the US in the past and I found it to be very chewy and probably frozen. This, however, was fresh, tender and subtle and together they made a pairing that shouldn’t be missed.
For my main dish, a couple of us got the hand-made pappardelle noodles with wild-boar sauce (Pappardelle al ragù bianco di cinghiale) and I was glad at this point that we ordered the red wine. It is a full flavored, but certainly not gamey, meat sauce that made me feel like I was getting even with those wild boars that are roaming around Rome. The pasta was fresh and chewy and the sauce, even though it’s a ragù bianco, doesn’t have cream or any other white sauce, which is what I have eaten in other restaurants. It is a delicious meat sauce that has only a few quality ingredients that are allowed to shine. Another dinner guest had the Chicken alla Cacciatora, which I had eaten during a previous visit, and it is a slow braised chicken that is falling off the bone. I thought that this dish has a bunch of other ingredients, like peppers and tomatoes, but I think that is the US version. Here, it is way more simple, again, allowing the chicken to be tasted without the addition of a bunch of other overpowering ingredients.
This time we didn’t get dessert, so I finished my meal off with an espresso. I was surprised to learn that their roaster, Ciamei, is local. It was delicious and I look forward to buying some of this...
Read moreIf you're Asian, or even if you're not Asian, if you're against racism, I don't recommend this restaurant.
I was born in Korea and educated in America. I have visited Italy regularly for the past 15 years. Before start, I am well aware of the restaurant manner and how to order in Italy. here is my story.
My husband and I visited this restaurant for lunch and were seated next to an American couple.
We ordered 2 antipasti, a primi piato and half bottle of white wine. we ordered one pasta as a primi piato. When we asked if we could share the pasta after 2 antipasti, the server who took our order said yes.
An American couple at the next table ordered a single antipasto first and the other server left it at our table. When I said it wasn't what we ordered, he joked several times that my husband was a thief. At that time, we laughed at the joke without thinking.
2 antipasti we ordered came out. After about 15 minutes, another server(looked Indian) came to us with pasta and asked in English if we had finished the antipasti, even though there was more than half of the food left in the both plates.
Even though we clearly replied in English that we hadn't finished, the server tried to take our plates. Eventually, the server took the uneaten bread and put the pasta bowl on our small table.
The server who took the bread was nowhere to be seen, so I told the server who made my husband a thief that a server tried to take the food even though we hadn't finished the antipasti. The server who made my husband a thief said Italians don't share food. And he said the time given to eat the antipasti was 15 minutes. REALLY?
So I pointed to the next table and said their second dishes hadn't been served yet for the American couple(They were also surprised how the server had acted), and he said it was because they ordered a different menu. But what they ordered was one antipasto and two pastas.
If the pasta we ordered came out quickly by mistake, the server should have kept the food inside and served it after we finished the two antipasti we ordered. We even ordered two antipasti and a pasta and asked the first server if it was okay to share the pasta.
One server put unordered food on my table and he didn't even apologize. And he made my husband a thief. The jokes weren't funny at all after all and dining at this restaurant was an...
Read more“The service was very disappointing and unprofessional. The octopus on hummus arrived far too late — almost when I was about to ask for the check. The waiter clearly struggled to understand the order and tried to convince me that potatoes counted as ‘grilled vegetables,’ which felt like a misunderstanding at best and a lack of training at worst.
It’s a shame, because the menu and the wine-by-the-glass selection were promising. However, the overall experience felt careless and unpolished, especially considering the price.
In summary: a wasted opportunity and a disappointing experience.”

my further opinion
“I asked the waiter if you had any grilled vegetables available, as I ordered fish from your menu — which, by the way, was very tasty. I simply didn’t want to have potatoes for dinner and wondered if I could order some extra grilled vegetables instead.
I’m very familiar with Italian cuisine and understand how meals are prepared. In my opinion, it should not be a problem for a guest to have a lighter dinner and, instead of a main course, order an additional appetizer.
However, if someone replies to this review, I owe it to you to be honest. The waiter who served us had very bad breath and smelled of cigarettes. It was immediately noticeable that he was not Italian.
If someone doesn’t care about basic personal hygiene, how can they be trusted to serve customers? I paid a bill of several hundred euros in your restaurant, and I have every right to expect a certain minimum standard.
Please understand — this is not a comment about your food, which was very good, but about the waiter who is unfortunately ruining the hard work and reputation of your entire...
