After a few months of delay we finally returned to Ristorante Pizzeria Galilei and we were excited to try some new things. Since it’s a pizzeria, last time we were here we enjoyed that, but I wanted something different this time so we focused on some Roman specialties like Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Supplì and Crocchette di Patate. In addition, I was more in the mood for a Secondo Piatto, so I had the Scaloppina di Vitello ai Funghi Porcini.
We started with the house white, which was from Lazio, and settled in for a relaxing and delicious dinner. The service was very responsive, friendly and gave great recommendations. I strongly suggest making a reservation because there was a waiting line almost as soon as we sat down. This was a Saturday night, so I’m not sure how busy it is during the week in the summer.
One of our tests of a restaurant is how well they fry. This seems like an easy skill to acquire, but in the US I’ve had countless meals where the deep fryers weren’t hot enough, the food was soggy or they crossed the fish fryer with the non-fish. These folks fried the Supplì, Crocchette and Olives really well. Our main dishes were equally enjoyable and if you are able to taste with your eyes, take a look at the pictures I’ve attached.
We had other plans for dessert, so we asked for the check and headed out. The prices were very reasonable and it was a delightful...
Read moreAll I can say is for goodness sake do not order the steak!!
We approached the bar and were pointed by the barman to a table outside, the waiter then said no no no and moved us inside, as it was reserved apparently (great communication between staff) we were then moved into the basement. We waited for about 20 minutes before being given a menu, another 10 before we ordered. Food was quick (seemed a little too quick) after this though. I ordered the Steak and tomatoes... Which came without any tomatoes, just a couple of bits of salad and a chunk of lemon. It was also salted to hell and also the stringyest steak I've ever had. It was so salty i could not eat it. The Parmigiana my fiancé had didn't look great and was also excessively salty. We tried to complain but as the waiter didn't speak any English and our Italian isn't great we ended up paying for the wine and leaving. The Pizzas did look great though but most places serve great pizza in Rome tbh so no particular reason to eat here. We found Pizzaria de Michelle just down the road to be LOADS better, nice staff who speak English well and AMAZING food, also much cheaper than this restaurant for both wine and food...we ate there...
Read moreBetween the three of us we ate the fried zucchini flowers, two pizzas, and three desserts- the tiramisu, pannacotta and the torte di nonna.
It was my first time eating deep fried zucchini flowers but I thought the batter could have been thinner, and the whole things more appetizing. Among greasy starters this was not my favorite.
The pizzas were good- very thin crust, and rather different from the more yeasty Neapolitan style.
My favourite thing about the evening was the torte di nonna, which was soft with ricotta, and delicious. The tiramisu was good as well. The pannacotta was a bit too firm in texture for my liking but tasted just fine.
The service was great. The house wine was extremely drinkable. The place is so nice to sit in and we had a very pleasant evening. Will definitely return, and try the pasta. As the people eating that seemed...
