A friend and I stumbled across this hole-in-the-wall while walking back to our hotel from dinner at nearby Roscioli (also highly recommended). Crazy barman/owner Marco pulled up some chairs for us, introduced us to the other guests â whoâd also only just met â and before we knew it were part of an impromptu drinks party on the tiny piazza. Spontaneous moments like this are what travelling should be all about! When I came to pay by credit card and discovered they only take cash, I was concerned as I didnât have any on me. Marco wasnât fazed â he just told me to come back tomorrow with the cash, which I did. Marco, who is a native Roman, has worked all over the world (including my hometown of Sydney we discovered) heâs a true hospitality professional and also a wealth of tips on where else to eat and drink well in Rome! Thx Marco â see you again...

The interior also features a case with pastries and sandwiches to fill up when the...

To top it off he gave me a desperately needed list of local places to go to avoid the bad tourist food and bars! AND a place up the street that looked good I wanted to go, but was worried about not having reservations. What did Marco do? He walked with me to the restaurant before they opened, introduced me to the owner and chef, and got me a table. When does that ever happen? And wouldnât you know it that meal wound up the best food of my entire 2 week trip to Italy. By FAR! I cannot possibly be happier...
