This was the best place we found to eat in our first few days in Rome.
First, the price was reasonable. Four of us each had a meal, plus three appetizers and two desserts among us. We also had a 750 ml carafe of wine and a couple of coffees. The total was 72 Euros.
We shared two antipasto plates and a mozzarella ball for appetizers. They were fresh and good.
Two of us had gnocchi with Bolognese sauce. It was delicious and satisfying. One of us had cannelloni, and described the pasta as "silky." I had lasagna, which was rich and flavorful, as good as any this American tongue has ever tasted.
We shared again for dessert, tiramisu and "Grandma's cake." I'm not a huge tiramisu fan, but it was well done, and the tiramisu lovers in the group were pleased. The cake was almost like a pie, with a dense lemony filling and a flaky crust.
Finally, our waiter was quite charming, as well as patient and helpful to us tourists who spoke no Italian. He threw in a free limoncello for those of us who liked it.
The place also offers pizza, but only for dinner, not lunch, so plan accordingly.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe found this restaurant located closeby through Google maps. It is a family-run restaurant with brothers Stefano and Massiliamo greeting guests, taking orders, serving tables and sometimes in the kitchen. We found this to be one of the better restaurants to eat at in Roma, and it was frequented by local Roman families, so we ate there multiple times. On the first night, we were warmly greeted by the brothers, who took their time to joke with us in English and even pose for a photo. The fettucine Bolognese and the Lasagna Ragu are recipes passed down from their mothers, and tasted fantastic (the latter was definitely the best pasta we had during our stay in Roma). Their pizza (with hard-boiled egg) was also good although a little burnt around the edges. Note that there are two dining areas. The one closest to the entrance is poorly ventilated and feels hot as that is where fireoven for the pizza is located. Ask to sit inside.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur first night in Rome, we were recommended this restaurant by our Airbnb host. We got there and the atmosphere was nice, we sat down and had nice bruschetta and house wine. However when we ordered the main course, Carbonara and Fettucine, they were so disgusting they were inedible. Iāve had bad carbonara before and I still ate it but this was unbelievably poor. The bacon was burnt and tasted like pork scratching, the sauce was literally milk and flour, no egg at all. We sent the plate back and the staff was insistent i keep the plate. They eventually took it and acted very annoyed, then still added it onto our bill. We had to speak to the owner of the restaurant who was more understanding but was still blaming us saying this is what Carbonara is in Rome. This was clearly an act against tourists as an Italian man next to our table also got Carbonara and it looked decent. Very disappointed, do not recommend at all, will...
