Genuine? Sure we can!
Came here on the recommendation of a German travel guide. And what a good idea!
We were welcomed by Mama Rosa and Son.
For the short story : mama Rosa worked as cook in another known restaurant in Salerno for 20 years until she opened together with her sons their own restaurant. She is still the chef.
So, welcome in Italian (i barely understand something and my girlfriend even less). For ordering explained that one eats no meat nor fish- and the other goes on recommendations - it functioned very well and they had a very good way to explain everything (showed us in the kitchen the vegetarian dishes). LOVED IT!!
Several vegetarian antipasti (5 i think) home made pasta with oisters, grilled fish with salad, 1 water and 0.5 liters of wine for 30 Euros. I wanted to go back and ask if the calculation was right...
Food was great, and plenty. They tried and managed in a very nice way to present the menu. It is seldom that i get such a good feeling in a restaurant.
DO NOT EXPECT: some kind of fancy decoration. Too much romantic atmosphere. Some kind of pretentious waiter telling you in 5 languages that their food is the best.
GO THERE IF: you're interested in local food (midday offer is taken by the bank employees, professors and the students from the university in the near ) genuinely prepared and served.
Some said this place is overrated. I think that it is definitely underrated as everything there is so sincere.
Thank you for a great last dinner...
Read moreThe best Octopus Genovese Pasta with crushed pistachio (Paccheri alla Genovese di polpo più granella di pistacchio) I've ever eaten! The octopus was so tender, it's as melt-in-the-mouth as octopus can get. The taste of the whole dish was perfectly balanced and so moreish that I wish we could have gone back for more!
We also had the mussel tomato soup with fried spaghetti and fresh basil which had tender, fresh (not frozen) mussels, which was a very good dish that was served with the best bruschetta I've ever eaten (plain grilled bread with sea salt, oregano and olive oil). It was so moreish and delicious you'd be amazed at the simple seasoning.
Friendly and professional service from all the staff, some of whom speak English and translates for Mamma Rosa, who comes personally to each table to take the orders. They have a QR code that you can scan to get the digital English menu. To save the elderly Mamma Rosa from another trip to call for staff to translate for her, you can consider using Google Translate to read out the Italian name of the dish you want from the digital menu (she was not able to see the menu when I just pointed to it, and I felt bad she had to make another trip to call for staff to translate).
Would definitely return if I am ever back in Salerno! Honest good food that tastes great! Prices are very fair and value-for-money for the quality, freshness and...
Read moreWhat a delight! My family and I arrived in Salerno after a long day of travel and although we were generally exhausted, we were hungry and decided to come here based on a recommendation, and we are glad we did. We arrived exactly when they opened around 8pm, and although we didn’t have a recommendation (we didn’t know we should make one) Rosa’s son warmly welcomed us and quickly prepared us a table. What ensued was easily one of the most memorable dinners we’ve ever had as a family. Rosa herself took our orders and when we were unsure or hesitant she took over and ordered us antipasti’s. Each antipasti was better than the next, and our meals were unforgettable. The entire meal was beyond our expectations and set the bar high for all the meals to follow. And then, when we finished our meal and were leaving the restaurant, Rosa embraced each of us like we’d known eachother forever. We left with a full bellies and...
