This was our favourite restaurant in San Gimignano. We stayed for 7 nights and ate here twice because we liked it so much.
The main room features a breathtaking view of the valley through the windows. Happily, the food matched the view.
The food is excellent. There are local dishes, cooked and presented well, with a tiny twist that does not take away from the original idea. We had a carbonara with truffles, filled pasta with pistachio, and suckling pig with roast potatoes.
We also shared a platter of hams and cheeses, which worked well as a starter for 3 people. The desserts were good: millefoglie with peaches and ginger, plus a tiramisu with a little bit of crunch.
The service is good. They speak English well. The waiting staff are efficient but courteous at all times.
The location is excellent too. The restaurant is situated just inside the gate next to parcheggio 2. The main square is about 5 minutes walk.
It is full every night so I recommend...
Read moreA bit disappointed by this well noted restaurant. Firstly, the gentleman that welcomed us was not very happy with new customers. We didn't received better table even if available. The food looked good in the review pictures but the real deal was not such of a deal: the chicken and the vegetables are deep fried (not for a traditional Tuscan cuisine). The meett itself was average (comparable with a good KFC). The deep fried vegetables were lacking any kind of acidity. The lamb was half OK, half undercooked (one piece good, the other one not. Consistency is a key... the grilled potatoes were very dry and half of them looked and tasted reheated (super dry and dark brown). The gentleman that served us was nice and friendly (contrasting the first one). I would say that for the price, the experience was rather disappointing...
Read moreWhen I tell you I am STILL thinking of my meal here and daydreaming about my return—truly one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had and cannot stop thinking about it! Set in a gorgeous building with large glass windows overlooking sprawling Tuscan vineyards, this is a perfect lunch stop in San Gimignano as you enter the main gate. They have an extensive menu of amazing options, and we were impressed with everything we ordered, from the Tuscan pecorino selection with jams, to the red wine, the Pale Ale, and of course, the showstopper—“Cappellacci di pasta fresca al fossa, con crema di pistacchio e speck croccante” which is a pasta dumpling filled with cheese covered in a pistachio cream sauce. MY HEAVENS how do I order this dish to be sent to the US?? SO GOOD. A must stop in...
