Osteria San Martino — Restaurant in Siena

Last night, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Osteria San Martino, and it was a truly exceptional experience from start to finish. The food and service were nothing short of impeccable.

We started with the beef tartare, which was beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned — a real standout dish that set the tone for the evening. For our mains, we each chose a pasta dish, both of which were cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and wonderfully satisfying. To finish, we indulged in two desserts, and they were every bit as impressive — rich, balanced, and the perfect sweet ending to a flawless meal.

The service was equally outstanding: attentive without being intrusive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the food they were serving. It’s clear that great care and attention to detail go into every aspect of the experience here.

We stayed in Siena for a week at the end of April in order to explore the Tuscan countryside but have a homebase, with lots of culinary and attractions options. For our first 5 days the food we had with exception of the morning sandwiches and pastries were not up to the standard we expected from Italy. Then on the 6th day we decided to go across the street from our airbnb and it was a game changer. Osteria San Martino was a gave us an appreciation for homestyle Italian cooking not only was the food exceptional but also the staff. Guguelmo our server took the time to explain each dish and the chef came out both nights to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. We went 2 nights in a row, one for pasta the second to experience the Florentine steak. All was exceptional as were the desserts. Il nostro weekend a Siena ha avuto una protagonista indiscussa: l’Osteria San Martino, che ha reso speciali entrambe le nostre cene.

La prima sera ci siamo lasciati guidare dalle ottime recensioni e, incuriositi, abbiamo prenotato un tavolo. Il menù era davvero invitante, ma siamo arrivati con un’idea precisa: volevamo assaggiare la fiorentina. Abbiamo ricevuto ottimi consigli sul taglio migliore e siamo stati guidati anche nella scelta del vino. A completare il piatto, due contorni – patate e spinaci – che hanno accompagnato la carne in modo perfetto. La qualità della fiorentina ha superato le aspettative.

Abbiamo concluso con il tiramisù senese: da veneti, possiamo dire che questa variante ci ha conquistati. Il cantuccio dona al dolce un’impronta toscana originale e ben riuscita.

Prima ancora di lasciare il tavolo, abbiamo deciso di tornare anche la sera successiva, per due i motivi principali: da un lato, volevamo assaggiare i primi piatti che ci eravamo ripromessi di non perdere; dall’altro, avevamo già capito che l’Osteria San Martino era il posto giusto per vivere un’esperienza autentica, lontana dai locali turistici. Una sensazione rara, soprattutto nelle grandi città d’arte – come lo è anche la nostra Venezia – dove spesso è difficile trovare realtà così tradizionali e genuine.

La seconda sera è stata altrettanto memorabile: ci siamo dedicati ai pici, alla trippa e alla tagliata, con un nuovo assaggio del tiramisù senese. Ogni piatto si è rivelato unico, con una cura nei dettagli che trasmette passione e autenticità. Nessuna portata è stata banale o ripetitiva: ciascuna ha avuto una propria identità ben definita.

Una menzione speciale va allo staff: cortese, disponibile, attento, ma soprattutto genuino, con quel tocco di socievolezza che riesce a farti sentire a casa. Trovarsi, a fine serata, a chiacchierare del Palio con chi ci aveva servito ed ascoltare la storia e le tradizioni senesi da chi le vive davvero, ha reso la serata ancora più speciale.

L'Osteria San Martino ha contribuito a rendere il nostro fine settimana senese davvero unico, un'esperienza davvero piacevole che ci è rimasta addosso, come una irrinunciabile felpa dei Guns!
