Jamaica Beach Bar — Restaurant in Sirmione

Absolutely awful experience.

We were at the beach in the evening, near the water. Around 8:00 PM, someone approached us and said the beach was closing. We packed up and headed toward the exit at 8:10 exactly. Then a man with his colleague suddenly began shouting that the gate was closed. The moment they realised we weren’t Italian, they started hurling racial insults in Italian, assuming we couldn’t understand him.

Even though one of them had the keys in his hand, he refused to open the gate. Instead, he told us to walk 20 minutes through the sea, over dangerous, slippery rocks, to reach another exit on the other side of the island. I was carrying a 50-liter backpack filled with camera gear and electronics and 2 other bags with my hands. With no alternative, we followed his instructions. A few minutes in, I slipped on a hard rock and smashed my knee, blood was pouring down my entire right leg and I couldn’t walk for 30 minutes.

We called an ambulance, but they told us they couldn’t reach us in the water and that we had to return to the beach. Even after seeing me injured and covered in blood, the man continued yelling insults in Italian. He only opened the gait in the lower part of the hill and refused to open the upper gate and told us to climb over it instead—despite holding the keys the entire time.

It was one of the worst and most humiliating experiences I’ve ever had. These two men acted with blatant racism and complete disregard for human decency. I hesitate to even call them human—their behavior was disgusting.

Avoid this place at all costs. People like this can seriously endanger your safety.

Heute wurden wir plötzlich von einem lang andauernden Sturzregen und Gewitter am Jamaica Beach überrascht. Wir suchten Schutz in der Jamaica Bar. Neben uns waren 20 weitere Gäste da, die auch alle sofort was zum Trinken bestellten. Dennoch machte das unfreundliche Personal die Bar sofort zu. Viele Gäste hätten sicher gerne noch mehr konsumiert. Das Personal wartete das Gewitter untätig bis 19.00 Uhr ab, dann sprang der Chef auf, bekleidet mit einem Müllsack gegen den Regen und wollte ohne große Ankündigung das Tor zur Stadt verschliessen. Der andere Kellner und seine Freundin hielten ihn kurz auf damit alle Gäste trotz andauerndem Gewitter die Bar verlassen konnten. Keiner der Gäste hatte Regenkleidung dabei. Wir waren mit kleinen Kindern unterwegs und mussten in Panik im Sturzregen den Weg zur Stadt entlang rennen. Wir hätten uns deutlich mehr Verantwortungsbewusstsein vom Personal erwünscht. Der Weg zur Stadt dauerte 10 Minuten zu Fuß und führte unter vielen Bäumen hinduch. Andere Unterstellmöglichkeiten waren auf dem Weg nicht gegeben! Die Situation war gefährlich. Man kann Gäste bei einem Gewitter nicht einfach vor die Tür setzen!!! Zum Glück ist nichts...
