Read moreMade reservations and we were excited to try this restaurant as it was recommended to us and it was our last meal in sorrento. (Speaking only to the food I would say it was good, again it wasn’t amazing or the best pasta/lasagna we’ve ever had- I think you can find better food and more welcoming places in sorrento, I would much rather prefer to wait in line over at La Cantinaccia del popolo). The reason for the 1 star was the terrible customer service. We were seated and then waited 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. Once we finally ordered, we waited another 25 minutes before some garlic bread was brought out (we did not get any of our drinks). No one came to ask if we needed anything. We did not get the drinks until we finally complained at which point the server did apologize. We had now been waiting over 45 minutes. Our food arrived, we ate (again no one came over to ask if we needed anything). When we finally asked for the bill, a service charge of 4.50 euros was added on. We have no problem waiting for food, or paying a service charge if the service is good however this was far from it. We asked why we were being asked to pay a service tax and brought up the fact that we waited almost an hour with no drinks or food and no one came to check up on us so we did not feel we should have this on our bill. The server took it off, however before we could pay and leave the owner came out to explain to us in an angry way that the food takes long Because everything is made from scratch and he has to boil the water for the penne and he can’t make it any faster for us. Again, we shared that we have no problem waiting for food, it’s okay if it took an hour and we appreciate that it’s made from scratch, the issue we had was waiting over 20 minutes to order and another 25 minutes with not even our drinks until we brought it our waiters attention. A simple apology and NOT adding a service fee after you know the service has been poor would have resolved the situation. For the poor experience alone and interaction with the owner at the end, I would not return or recommend...
Read moreAzz! Is a small restaurant just off the main drag through the town of Sorrento, Italy. We’d heard a lot of positive things about the place, so we decided to go and check the place out for dinner. When we got there, we realized how small it was, and there was already a small line outside, waiting to be seated. It’s rare that I’d line up for food, but I was on holiday and was keeping my initial chances of food in Sorrento high for quality. After a 15mins wait, myself and my two sons were seated. We browsed the menu, which was small but had decent variety. As we looked through the choices of food, a small dog was mulling around the restaurant. It had a sign on it, which said not to feed it (still not sure if it was the owners dog, or some rando off the street). My boys loved trying to get its attention as it passed near our table. In the menu, it pointed out that everything is cooked fresh, so there’ll be a longer wait than most places. Please look elsewhere if you want something quick. I’d take that as a good sign. I ordered the Pappardelle ai Funghi Porchini, basically a very wide, thin pasta with a mushroom sauce. One of my boys ordered the Margherita pizza, the other a simple grilled chicken breast and side potatoes. I was surprised at the punch of the mushroom flavour of the sauce, and the pasta was cooked just right. I was very tasty. The son who ordered the Pizza, really enjoyed his, too. Coming to the end days of our trip, he recalled this as being the best pizza he had ever tasted 😊 We enjoyed Azz! so much, that we returned again a few days later. It was the only restaurant that we visited twice during our stay in Sorrento. The second time I tried the Penne all’Arrabbiata…which was tomatoey and spicy sauce with penne pasta. Another simple, but very tasty dish. I’d suggest getting there early in the day, say 3 or 4 for dinner, as it can get busy from 6pm onwards. Well worth a visit, and merits it’s good scores...
