They will secretly upcharge you, and hope you don’t notice. I rarely leave reviews, but I refused to be bullied
I asked for wine from a waitress that was listed as €13 on the menu. When a different waiter brought the wine bottle, I saw that it was much bigger than I anticipated. Second guessing my knowledge of the metric system, I asked to confirm this was the €13 wine. The waiter said yes.
When the bill came, a third waiter brought it and immediately became aggressive when I asked why the bill was €23. He stormed away and slammed the menu in front of me where I then showed him where I ordered from.
He told me that I shouldn’t have drank it all if I thought it was only €13. I agreed that it was a very low price, but then tried to explain that’s why I asked to confirm. The original waitress came to tell me the same thing in a equally patronizing way, refusing to acknowledge that she took down the wrong order.
Their only argument was that I had already drank the wine, but refused to acknowledge that their waitress took down the wrong order and that a different waiter then falsely confirmed what I thought to be suspicious.
It’s a matter of €10 that I was willing to pay. I only became angry when the waiter slapped down the menu in front of me and the other two refused to acknowledge that they made a mistake.
As the waitress pointed out, there are plenty of restaurants in Sorrento. You have options. Don’t choose this one.
The bathroom was also filthy...
Read moreA couple of days ago I and my friend were at Bar Veneruso. We bought 4 pieces: 2 x Tiramisu (3 € per piece), 1 mini cheese cake (2,5 €) and another small piece for 1 € (sum=9,5€). We took a seat and ate. Tiramisu with pistachios was delicios, the classic one was just ok. The small cheese cake didn't taste like cheese and the fruits on it were old. The 4th piece was also not a fresh one. So, maybe I would give at least 1 star for the taste of the pistachio tiramisu (however, just 1 good of 4 pcs. is a very poor result). We didn't sit long, because we got fast dissappointed by the taste, so we went to the pay desk. We were surprised to pay 4 € per tiramisu instead of 3€ like offered, but we got the explanation, that this is coperto. We know about this cover charge (usually per table or person), so we payed without further questions and left the bar. However, the bill was about 13,50 € and this was more than what we actually orderered, even with included coperto. So we went back to the bar and asked. The answer was: coperto is per piece !!! So, to put it in a nutshel, at Bar Veneruso they charge you with coperto of 0,5 or 1 € per piece, which is not even fresh or delicios, so at the end we payed 3,5 € for an old mini cheese cake, which is as long as my middle finger. I've never experienced this kind of coperto before or so bad cakes, so please...
Read moreI absolutely loved this place. This was our breakfast place for the duration of our stay in Sorrento. We were there six days, and every morning started at this place. We tried different dishes, and tried to mix and match. I am a vegetarian, and my traveling companion is not. Making any dish vegetarian, was no problem at all.
What left a lingering memory was the quality of the food and especially the great service. Our usual server Pepe stuck out from the crowd; he was service minded, kind, funny and very effective. All the servers were super sweet, helpful and quick too, and everyone spoke english. The menu included a variety of local and international dishes, combos, pastries etc.
And oh my gosh, the coffee..... delicious! Best in Sorrento that we had, at least (tried esspresso at maybe 5 places)
The interior is quite modern, fresh, clean, and yet quite cozy, it even preserves its old feeling from its early days from 1930, with some ceramic tiling, architecture and furniture. I could say a lot more, but I recommend that anyone who goes to Sorrento and stays near the center, should...
