English Inn — Restaurant in Sorrento

On a recent trip to Europe for a Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona, one of our port stops was Naples. We decided to take a train to explore Sorrento.

We hustled off the ship quickly, being among the first passengers off the ship, so we were ready for a morning coffee. As we walked Sorrento from the train station there (Circumvesuviana Sorrento), we were there so early in the morning that not many cafes were open yet.

We finally came upon the English Inn (Corso Italia, 80067 Sorrento). The decor looked pretty authentic British pub-like. Un-British pub-like, we ordered cappuccinos and a latte. There must’ve been a mix in translation because my latte came back as a glass of hot milk. It tasted ok, but it wasn’t a latte. That’s what I deserve for not ordering a pint in a pub.

I had a very bad experience at the English Inn. I arrived an hour early to watch the game Italy vs Croatia and get a table. Once inside, I ordered beers and some fish and chips with my family. The order took an hour to arrive, and once we finished eating and drinking our beers, two waiters started telling us that if we didn’t keep consuming, we had to leave. They spoke to us very rudely (there were still 30 minutes left in the game and we were watching it). We had to leave because the waiters made us very uncomfortable and kept touching my shoulder constantly. Stumbled upon this quaint, little bar while doing some shopping in the alleys of Sorrento. It looked like a cool place for an ice cold Guiness. Browsing the menu, the fish and chips looked rather tasty. Fish n' chips was fair but the Guiness really hit the spot. Unfortunately, our waitress proved uninterested in us at all. Even after requesting several times for vinegar, I had to ask the bartender who quickly fetched us some. To add salt to the wound, the waitress overcharged us for a drink that we never ordered.
