Great food, decent price. The place is typical Italian as the waiters and you are on the old town but in a quiet street. The food is very good, more than enough quantity and variety. The price is still (October 2016) very acceptable and a lot better than on other restaurants. The house wine is very good (white or red, they are both good, 0.5L is enough for 2 and the price is good). I ate here 2 times because the price / quality is amazing and you get really homemade tasty Mediterranean food (I am from south Europe and I am used to good Mediterranean food). The service is fast and I would recommend it to everyone, though not the best choice for romantic quiet dinners ; -)
The only "neutral" opinion is that I understand Italian and I know that some workers sometimes talk between themselves/make fun from some non-Italian customers, nothing special but not very polite. Other than that excellent, I truly recommend it and I hope they DON'T follow other restaurants (that decrease quality, change the food to accommodate non-Mediterranean tastes and increase prices. Lots of other restaurants offer hamburgers, French fries or pizza/pasta swimming on...
Read moreAverage for the area… In an area of fierce competition Da Gigino is a few yards off the pace. In no way am I saying that the meal we had here was bad but it is very middle of the road in terms of what’s available in Sorrento. Usually we would have walked by however we were starving after a long day of travel and stumbled into the first place we came to. In danger of offending our friends in the USA I found this place set up to attract groups of American tourists. The cutesy location in a narrow alley way and ambient lighting of the terrace gives a very inviting glow to passers by looking for the “traditional Italian experience”. However this unfortunately is not reflected in the quality of the food or service. In my opinion the location does this restaurant a lot of favours. We both had fillet steaks, both cooked well but one was extremely fatty. No main meals come with anything extra so we had to order a salad and a bowl of fries which really adds to the total bill. And the food is not cheap. We managed to rack up an expensive bill very quickly due to the above and left feeling rather short changed. Very average food with above...
Read moreCanadian here. This was our last night of our two weeks through Italy, and we have eaten in a restaurant almost every night while in Italia. Stopped in for a pint at the pub just up the street and the bartender recommended this place as a great spot for pizza, and just around the corner! We had had pizza before (Roma), but for our last night, we felt we must have pizza Napoli style. We had the caprese salad to start (excellent), and then a pizza each. Cooked in a wood fired oven, they arrived shortly after our appie plates were cleared (they only take about 5 minutes to cook), and wow...just wow. When I saw my pie, I didn't think I could get through it all, but once I started, I couldn't stop! Good thing our apartment was downhill from there as I almost had to roll home. Tables are a bit close together, but it all seems to work. Service was great, and we called the Pizzaiolo "Maestro" for his skilled pie-making. He flashed us a broad grin when we called him that. Don't know about the rest of the menu as that is all we had, but for pizza, this place ranks as the best pie I have ever had. Ignore the haters....
