Having recently experienced the culinary delights of Sorrento, I can wholeheartedly recommend Frankie's Pizza Bar as a standout choice for authentic Neapolitan pizza. If you're in Sorrento and craving a truly exceptional pizza, look no further. A Taste of True Neapolitan Perfection Frankie's Pizza Bar delivers on all fronts, offering a genuine Neapolitan pizza experience that's both traditional and inventive. Their commitment to the craft is evident from the first bite. The high-hydration dough, a hallmark of true Neapolitan pizza, results in a crust that's wonderfully airy, soft, and slightly chewy, with those signature leopard spots from the blazing hot stone oven. It's the kind of crust that begs to be savored, not just as a vehicle for toppings, but as a star in its own right. More Than Just Pizza While the pizza is undoubtedly the main attraction, Frankie's offers a diverse menu that caters to all tastes. From classic options like the Marinara (a personal favorite, proving that a truly great pizza doesn't always need cheese) to more adventurous creations like the "Frankie's Bar special" with smoked cheese, nduja, and rocket, there's something for everyone. They even have a comprehensive vegan range and a variety of other Italian delights like calzones, focaccia, bruschetta, and pasta dishes. A Welcoming Atmosphere Beyond the incredible food, Frankie's Pizza Bar offers a fantastic ambiance. It strikes a perfect balance between a traditional Neapolitan pizzeria and a relaxed English pub. The staff, including Frankie himself, are incredibly welcoming, creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. It's a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family, and their selection of local and international craft beers pairs perfectly with their pizzas. The Verdict For anyone visiting Sorrento, Frankie's Pizza Bar is an absolute must-visit. It's a place where passion for pizza meets exceptional execution, resulting in a memorable dining experience. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you – inside, you'll find some of the best pizza Sorrento...
Read moreA tale of two visits!
Scores are an average of the two visits. Only got an extra one for atmosphere as played some good music, but I consider Pearl Jam good music!
Comes very recommended by reviews and when we first passed there was a long queue of people waiting, which is normally a good sign, so we went back the next night.
Luckily there was no queue when we went back. Had a lovely table upstairs, two nice pizzas, all very pleasant.
We wanted to try the pasta so decided to go back a couple of nights later….. If the review were based on this visit I don’t think it would have managed 1 star.
We joined the queue, and waited about 15 mins for a table. We were pleased to be upstairs again and took a table in the far corner, possibly a mistake.
We ordered drinks and a bottle of water, an arancini for starter, and tomato pasta and carbonara for main. The drinks arrived… without the water… and we waited…. And waited some more as other seated after us got their food… then we waited some more. Then eventually our mains arrived… without a starter ever appearing or the water. Both of which were then bought out when we raised it. The arancini was meant to be cheese and pepper but no sign of any sort of pepper and while my wife’s tomato pasta was ok, the carbonara was interesting… it was hot I’ll say that. Made with “pork jowl” for this read “lumps of uncooked pork fat” and some of the egg scrambled. It was too busy to be bothered to complain but total let down compared to the first visit.
One last note, the only place I have seen that charges a cover charge for your seat and table wear, do not expect any extras for the...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend decided to go to Frankie’s Pizza Bar one evening after seeing all the good reviews online - and it definitely didn’t disappoint! 🍕
When we arrived, we were greeted straight away by a really polite waiter who got us a table in their bar area upstairs. The space was stunning! 😍 The decor is so unique - I loved the disco ball, the classic red phone box, and all the lemons hanging above us. Even the cutlery came in little paper bags, which was a fun touch. The music was spot on too; so many iconic songs were recognised and ended up singing along too!
The service was just as good. 👍🏻 Since this was my first time in Sorrento, I’ll admit I was a little anxious about eating out, but the staff made us feel relaxed straight away. 😇 Everyone had a smile on their face, they laughed at our jokes, checked in on tables if anyone was waiting too long, and even did bar tricks to keep us entertained. As for the “fake British accent” that some people mention in reviews - I know some tourists find this offensive, but honestly, we just found it funny. It didn’t feel mocking at all.
Now for the food! 😋 I had the carbonara and it was delicious - really cheesy and creamy, with tasty meat mixed in. It was so filling that I couldn’t finish it (to my disappointment. 🥲) My boyfriend went for a margarita pizza and said he really enjoyed it, though it was a bit oily in places and the cheese off a little too easily. 🤔
Overall, it was a fun, memorable evening and we’d both definitely come back again. 🥳 If you’re in Sorrento, Frankie’s is...
