I have no idea how O’Murzill has such high ratings. I would urge you to think twice about coming here if you’re a food lover. We came here after having terrible food elsewhere and wanting to get an enjoyable meal; we searched up reviews on Google saw 4.7 stars and thought we’d struck gold. We were wrong.
The good: This place is a cute hole-in-the-wall type eatery and in all fairness the staff were pleasant and prompt with their service to us.
The not so good: Possibly the worst meal I’ve had in Italy, my sauce was watery and oily, and overcompensated for its complete lack of flavour by being way too salty. The only way to describe the pasta was that it was both overcooked yet slightly hard (no I’m not talking about al dente)
We ordered our food and when the waiter left I had a tap on the shoulder from another diner, they told us the food was disgusting and recommended we leave. They paid their bill and left and we looked over at their table and could see every person there had barely eaten half of their meals. We should have left then and there but we were already in too deep so foolishly stuck it out and stayed for our meals.
From where I was sitting I could see into the kitchen and began to see that everything coming out of the kitchen was from a microwave; at least that explained the pasta texture.
Overall I think 2 stars is generous and I would encourage you to ignore the high ratings on this one and go elsewhere, if you choose to still go and dine here don’t say I didn’t warn...
Read moreWe had read about this as a recommended restaurant in Sorrento. We enjoyed it so much we went twice. The staff were super friendly. The atmosphere was what one envisions when you think of a trattoria in Italy. We ate inside, although they have outdoor seating, too. The food was great. The price was definitely reasonable. The first night I had the squid ink pasta with monk fish and an arugula and tomato salad. The salad was surprisingly satisfying - better than it's simple composition would make you think it would be. The pasta dish was delicious. The monk fish in dish was cooked perfectly. I don't know that it was necessary to the dish, but it was very good. My husband had the same salad and the pasta in a lemon sauce. He loved it. We ordered the pistachio panna cotta for dessert. Not my favorite - not because it was poorly executed, but simply it reminded me that I don't really care for pistachio deserts.
On our second visit we shared a roasted eggplant with tomato sauce and burrata. Delicious. The burrata was eye-rollingly good. I had the arugula salad and the gnocchi with sausage and fresh porcini. It was over-the-top delicious. My husband had the gnocchi alla Sorrentina, a typical dish of the region. He really enjoyed it. The house-made gnocchi were as light and tasty as you could hope for. We totally recommend...
Read moreThis food was good not great. We stopped by without reservations on a busy Sunday afternoon so it was nice that they took us without much of a wait. We ordered the house white wine which was good and made with the typical grapes of this region, falanghina. For appetizer we had the house cheese board listed for two on the menu. The bruschetta was killer, they soaked the bread in some oil before putting on the tomatoes. I also enjoyed the small arincini but might dining partners didn’t care for it. Lastly it is served with fried anchovies which can be eaten whole though I suggest maybe not eating the tail. The calamari was quite good and tender.
For main course they showed us pictures of the spaghetti of the day and fish of the day which was very helpful. My dining partner got the octopus with red sauce and WOW. The octopus was so tender, the most tender I have ever had. I got the special if the day of squid ink pasta and monkfish. It was good but too rich for me on a hot Sunday. We also ordered a side plate of vegetables which were surprisingly very good, they are served warm. Overall, I would recommend this place for a solid bite to eat. Oh, forgot to mention, throughout some of lunch we were entertained by a man playing the accordion outside which was...
