My 11th day in Italy, 3rd day in Sorrento and this was our strangest dining experience. The food was okay, the atmosphere was nice, but the service was disjointed. No personability or hospitality whatsoever. Nobody introduced themselves and I left there not even knowing who our waiter or waitress was. There was a guy that did not appear to be a server that took our order. He seemed annoyed and rushed. My wife is allergic to dairy and had questions about what's in the meal, he could barely be bothered and didnt want any questions. Another odd thing, they let street performers and a guy trying to sell flowers inside the restaurant. At first I thought the singer was hired by the restaurant. He sang two songs really loud at each table and then shook his hat in front asking for tips. Drinks and food came out timely, no issues there. The food was good but not great. I wouldn't have thought much about the experience up until that point until the next thing happened. My mother in law could only finish half of her steak so she asked if she could take the other piece home. This triggered a nasty response from one of the staff. She went up to the manager said something about us then laughed. She came back with the steak in a container and put it on the table. Then came back again saying to my mother in-law, saying "Is that what you wanted?" She walked around the restaurant with a nasty robotic look to her. Not friendly at all. We asked for the check and the manager quickly came up with the credit card machine to pay. We were reviewing the bill and in seconds he was shooting a flashlight on the bill to hurry us up. We asked what the 12 € charge was for and he said it was a service charge for napkins and silverware. This place was recommended to us by our driver who is local to the area but I didn't see the hype. Maybe they treat locals better than visitors but by far our strangest dining experience in Italy. I can't say I would recommend it unless you want to be treat...

The food was very nice, as it is in many of the restaurants in Sorrento, but the service was just not good. We waited for 20 minutes to be seated, the restaurant was busy and we completely understood this. Once seated we were approached shortly afterwards by our waiter. We ordered our food and drinks. We then waited for almost 30 minutes for our food and i had not been brought my drink. Our waiter then walked by and we reminded him about the drink, to which he simply replied, "I forgot", again I understand, the restaurant is busy and hectic. A few minutes later our drinks were brought to us. Once we had finished eating, we asked for the bill. We then sat and waited and waited and waited some more. We then asked the hostess as she walked by, who brought over the card machine a few minutes later. She placed the machine on the table, barely acknowledging us, in fact I don't even think she looked at us. We paid, she then placed the receipt on the table and abruptly walked away, with not so much as a, "Good night" or even an acknowledgement. Having read through some of the reviews, there seems to be a lot of remarks about this sort of attitude, which is a real shame. I completely understand that working in a busy restaurant can be stressful, but the very least you can do is say goodbye to your customers and the main reason we were leaving was to free up a table as there were people queuing outside. This is probably the first time I've walked out of a restaurant speechless and felt like telling people queuing, not to bother. Bottom line, there was no customer care at all and as I previously stated, the food was very nice, but the level of service just...

DO NOT TRUST THE FIVE STAR REVIEWS, THERE ARE MUCH BETTER PLACES IN SORRENTO!

After being recommended by a local driver, we were really looking forward to going here. In short, the service was comically bad. The waiting staff were like headless chickens who had too much on their plate. Everyone surrounding us was in the same position; no one could get service. We were without water for over an hour, which was desperately needed after consuming the saltiest meal I'd ever eaten in my life. I had the lasagne which is advertised to be served with hard boiled egg; there was no sign of the egg and I've had better lasanges in the UK. My salad was full of water (the plate was swimming), and when I asked for the manager our waiter magically unlearnt English and ripped the plate away from me at speed. There was another table complaining about a soggy pizza, to which the manager told them that's how mozzarella is and they had nothing to complain about. It was evident that the waiting staff couldn't cope and were avoiding any form of dispute. Mains meals were really oversalted, the steak was fine, but fine isn't good enough for the prices in there. Bizarrely, the chips weren't seasoned at all; it was a pot luck as to what had been seasoned and what hadn't. Plates were then removed from the table before some of us had finished eating, and no one checked in with us about the food because they knew it wasn't pleasant. I dont know how they're going to survive throughout the summer season judging by the incompetent behaviour displayed last night, and we weren't the only ones severely disappointed with...

A family friend recommended this spot and OMG we were blown away by how delicious it was! First of all, great theming with the Sophia Loren decor; the restaurant is clean, well-decorated, and it is definitely fancy for a “night on the town” to celebrate being in Italy! The bread AND focaccia that came to the table was crisp and fresh. I ordered a special: spaghetti with lemon and sea urchin, and HOLY GOSH it was so delicious! The pasta was not overly rich yet buttery, savory, and the right amount of “fishy.” It was also perfectly al dente! It also had a greens mix on top that added a great bitter element to counteract the richness. I also sampled some of my fiancé’s Sofia pizza and that stuffed crust was well charred, salty, and cheesy. So so good🤤We also sampled the melon and prosciutto app (fresh tasting meat and produce) and the seafood salad (seafood was cooked perfectly aka not rubbery and the olive oil over top was the perfect accompianment to allow the seafood flavor to shine). I definitely would recommend this spot for a fancy dinner if you are in Sorrento! Reservations are probably necessary since it was pretty crowded when we went on a Monday night (and we made reservations). My one “critique” is that I thought the servers could have been a little “softer” aka not super serious. Since the restaurant has a fun theme, I expected the staff to be a bit more lighthearted lol. I do think this place is pretty expensive, but like I said, if you are planning for a “fancy night,” then Donna Sofia is the perfect spot! My one regret is not having enough room for espresso!

Was told it was best to pre-book, which l did, only times available were 6.45 or 9 pm, we prefer about 8 ISH, so went with 6.45 pm...well, there was no need to book, lots of people were turning up at various times and getting seats..we should have done the same.... The interior is really nice lots of photos of Sophie Loren and nice deco. We ate in the main room although tables were very close to others and had to be careful not to knock your neighbour with your elbows. We ordered the Candele pasta with zucchini cream and a Diavola pizza, this was described with spicy salami and chilli filaments . The service was prompt, not long to wait but the food was disappointing, the pasta was quite bland and the pizza was not spicy at all, and lacking much flavour, Our waiter who served us, and topped our glasses up, smelled absolutely strongly of tobacco smoke which was quite distasteful. At one point he leant across us as we were eating to remove a items and cutlery. l asked for a sharp to knife cut my pizza to which he took the knife ( general everyday) I was using, turned it upside down and proceeded to cut the pizza into rough slices....quite rude. We felt as though the staff wanted us in and out quickly, the waiter brought our bill before we had asked for it and before we had finished our drinks. Our experience was such a shame as we had looked forward very much to eating here, we had eaten at other places with so much flavoursome food, there are plenty of other restaurants to eat at in Sorrento. €3 service charge each person.

Nestled in the charming city of Sorrento, Ristorante Donna Sofia is a culinary haven that captivates diners with its exquisite Italian cuisine. During my visit, I had the pleasure of savouring two remarkable dishes that showcased the restaurant's culinary prowess: the Risotto with Scallops and the Squid Ink Fish Ravioli. (Of course I tried some of my wife's risotto) The Risotto with Scallops was a symphony of flavours. The creamy Arborio rice was cooked to perfection, while the plump and succulent scallops added a touch of indulgence. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and aromas that delighted my palate. The Squid Ink Fish Ravioli was a true work of art. The delicate homemade pasta enveloped a filling of tender fish, generously infused with the rich and distinct flavour of squid ink. The dish was as visually stunning as it was delicious, a true testament to the skill and creativity of the chef. Ristorante Donna Sofia's commitment to using fresh and high-quality ingredients was evident in every aspect of the meal. The attentive service and cozy atmosphere further enhanced the dining experience. If you find yourself in Sorrento, make sure to visit Ristorante Donna Sofia. Indulge in their Risotto with Scallops and the exquisite Squid Ink Fish Ravioli. Your taste buds will thank you as you embark on a culinary journey that celebrates the best of Italian cuisine.
