At first glance, it seems loud, hectic, and chaotic, but it’s ultimately amazing! At Fratelli Burgio, you sit right in the middle of the action: on one side, customers are shopping for local specialties in the store, while on the other side, market stalls offer their fresh products. You sit in between and feel the vibrant life happening around you.
The service was very good. Despite the busy atmosphere and many customers, it took less than five minutes to get a table. The staff is very friendly. Orders are taken and served quickly. Despite the apparent hustle and bustle, the staff is very attentive, keeping an eye on all tables and guests to respond promptly.
A wide variety of dishes is offered, and the selection of drinks and wines is also good. We had the Terra Mare and the Slow Food Charcuterie Board. The quality of the food was good and tasty. The presentation was very appealing.
The price-performance ratio was good.
It was a great experience and a good stop for a midday snack to recharge and explore the rest of the city.

Read moreIf you've had subs or plain bakery sandwiches or bland panini at your local establishment you've got to visit Burgio for one of their heavenly panini with their wealth of cold cuts (salumerie), cheeses and condiments. They can fix you almost anything you can throw at them. It's not only the food that they serve that makes them standout from the rest on Ortigia. It's their friendliness and art of catering to the customers discerning palate. They also offer a variety of other Sicilian products for take-home culinary extravaganzas. They are only open from the morning to early afternoon, more so because of the open market going on at the same time, so get there early before the locals and tourists invade the area. We visited in the off-season, January, and we had no issues with ordering and presentation. No jostling or gesticulating to get in an order. The bread is also made locally and there's a fine selection to choose from. It's a meal on its own!! Take home, walk around or sit-down at the few available tables just outside and enjoy the hum of life...
Read moreWe went to this store on our last day in Syracuse to pick up some cold cuts and cheese to take back with us. I had tasted paglia-e-fieno cheese on wine tasing day and loved the favor of this cheese. It is supposed to be a semi firm cheese. I asked for it and was sold a roll in the pick. When we got back home we opened it to eat the cheese and we found that it was hard as rock and probably had been in their fridge for too long and unloaded on us. At its current form is harder than parmesan as you can see in the picture is shreds when you try to cut it, and the taste is quite off. No need to say. We are very disappointed buying this expensive cheese and carrying it across the Atlantic back home to find out that we were gypped by this establishment. I thought shoppers should...
