The food was extremely subpar for the premium price. Everything was overcooked and tasted fairly bland. The best thing about the meal was the bread dish in the beginning. The wine list was definitely more expensive than surrounding restaurants for similar quality wines. We had the gnocchi with red snapper and truffle tagliatelle with prawns to start. The gnocchi was good, slightly over salted, and not much red snapper for 22 euros. The tagliatelle, for 26 euros, really let us down. While there was some pieces of fresh black truffle on top, you could not taste the truffle at all and there was a total of 3 medium sized prawns with the rest being extremely small shrimp, about the size of a dime. I had the filetto di baccala for my main course and to say I was dissatisfied is an understatement. I actually could not finish the dish, as the cod was overcooked to the point that it was chewy. It was bland, and a very small fillet for 26 euros. One of our party ordered the filleto di branzino, which did not match the description in the menu, as well as being overcooked and dry. Another of our party ordered the tonno tataki. She said it had great flavor, but was cooked to medium-well, which for a quality piece of fresh tuna, is overcooked in my opinion. Of note, she was not asked how she wanted it cooked.
The wait staff was friendly, there was a long wait between courses, and a street music group came and performed at a volume that was quite loud for the small street we were on.
In total, we spent 230 euros for one of the cheaper bottles of wine, 3 bottles of water, 2 pasta dishes, and 4 fish entrees. I let the staff know my complaints about the baccala, as it returned to the kitchen barely touched, and they did not offer to take it off the bill (which I did not expect them to do, but would have been nice since it was inedible). Normally, I would write off this meal as just being another overpriced tourist trap, but we were recommended this restaurant by a close friend that lived in the area. I’m not sure if they had an off night or if they increased their prices and let their quality diminish with increased tourist traffic. Regardless, we are only in Taormina for 4 nights and this meal was extremely disappointing. If you’re looking for quality Sicilian food at a reasonable price,...
Read moreI always had a very good impression about Italian food. However, the experience in this restaurant could hardly met the average. The carbonara is OK, but that was obviously not enough oil in the dish. Maybe replacing the pork fat was shrimp wasn’t a good idea. The steak, lamb and pork is said to be sous vide. However, it almost taste like water boiled meat. The searing wasn’t enough, so basically the park was very, very thin. The beef have almost no fat that taste like what a boiled. The lamb shank has somehow the best dishes we ever had in this restaurant. The tiramisu is OK. Probably the best issue you ever had for the night. For a restaurant was that price? The quality of the dish was acceptable, not mention Italian food was supposed to be way better. I suppose that another example of the restaurant in the tourist area—— not recommended. P.S. we were trying to sit outside but they say we can only be seated inside. We were trying to squeezing for people that was our party of five. Was they not allowing us to, say that wasn’t enough space. Rather disappointing...
Read moreReserved a table of 6 at 930pm in this beautiful location in the heart of Taormina. People watching on a tight walking street is everything we wanted to experience. Salve and Sophia both took excellent care of us. Highly recommend the eggplant parmigiana appetizer, nothing like we imagined but so much better! In this part of Italy, mussels (cozza) are always a must order whether it's an app or dinner. Fish of the day was a red snapper like fish. Skip the carbonara here, it's good but not the best I've had. Risotto was beyond amazing, sweet and earthy with little chunks of seafood. Lastly, order a few cannolli's here as they are quite literally the best version of cannolli's I've ever had. Thin outside layer of a crunchy laced cookie hand stuffed with their home-made ricotta cream stuffing by Giovanni in the window (enter Van Wilder joke of your choice here). Would not only highly recommend but would return on our next visit. Thank you again...
