Sorry for the length, but itâs a good story. My wife and I, and four other family members, including our 18-year-old granddaughter, travelled to Sicily from Buffalo, NY last July and spent a few days in Taormina. We stopped into Pasticceria D'amore, a cute gelato and sweets shop on a busy corner in the northern section of the city. The store is charming, the people friendly and accommodating, and the gelato wonderful. But the story of our visit begins when our granddaughterâs cherished friendship ring slipped out of her hand and rolled under one of the display cases. As our granddaughter sat sobbing, the folks at the store bent over backwards (literally) to try and retrieve it, spending 20 minutes fashioning cardboard, wire, and paper hooks to try and scoop it out, to no avail. All this while the store was teeming with customers. Finally, we were told that in a few months they would shut down and perform their regular maintenance program and would be better able to do a thorough search. We left Sicily thinking she would never see the ring again. Fast forward six months as our family was waiting to board a flight to Disney World. My phone rang, displaying an international number, and I dismissed the call. Just as I was entertaining the idea that it might have been from the shop, it rang again. Indeed, it was Manuela from Pasticceria Gelateria D'Amore. In the best English she could muster, Manuela said they had found the ring! After several weeks of communicating back-and-forth, our granddaughterâs ring arrived at our house in March this year. You will love this shop and all its treats. We will always remember Pasticceria Gelateria D'Amore for its kindness. Grazie di...
Read moreToo bad that we didn't try cannoli but we came here for the granita and other sweets (almond paste cookies, casata, Biscotti alla Mandora and others). We bought their almond paste cookies for souvenirs (they came in a cute box or you can choose clear plastic).
We love their granitas especially the chocolate granita flavor. We came here 4 days in a row during our trip to Taormina.
We tried the famous Bam Bar as well before we came here and we can say that Gelateria D'amore is just as good as Bam Bar with cheaper price and if you don't want to wait for a long queue. However, you can't sit while eating the granita at Gelateria D'amore. They do have 1 standing table.
Ps: They make fresh Cannoli when you order and you can see patisserie...
Read moreWe traveled to Italy for two weeks with children in June/July 2024. That being said, we had gelato pretty much daily. This Gelateria was close to our hotel and one of our tour guides pointed it out to us. We were able to enjoy it on a couple of occasions. It was not crowded and had great selections. And of course... everything we tried tasted delicious. The only bad part is that we only had gelato, they had many other pastries that I wish we tried. We were also able to watch them making pastries. If we are ever in Taormina again we will definitely go here and try more than just the gelato. If you are ever there... don't miss the oppurtunity to...
