Absolutely awful. If I could stand in front with a sign saying "avoid", I would. I have dined at countless restaurants in dozens of cities in more than a dozen countries and I have never had this poor of an experience. We were not all served our appetizer before our dinner and our dinners were not served at the same time. 30 min after three of us finished, after no acknowledgement that the food was late or stopping by our table, I got up, found the server and told him we wanted to cancel the order and get the bill. After 20 minutes, the food was not here, I repeated that I wanted the bill and to cancel the order. The food arrived and then the bill arrived at the same time and we were told we had to pay for it. Even though I cancelled it 20 m earlier and I refused to eat it. We were told we ordered food 50 min ago and that it took 18 min to cook - what was going on during the 32 min we ordered, ate and waited? No wonder it wasn't full - tourist trap with subpar food and service. I was rude and I would be rude again. They were so rude, this is my first Google restaurant review, because the only thing I can do is warn all Americans who want to enjoy a nice meal to avoid this place like the plague. Spend your hard earned money and precious time on vacation elsewhere.

Edit: In their response, they accuse me of disrespecting their staff (which I already acknowledged above) - that disrespect occurred in the last 2 min of our interaction and not once during the meal and my 90 minutes at the restaurant. My entire experience can be summed up as "disrespect."

Edit 2: 90 minutes was supposed to be two courses. We ordered an antipasti and a primi. All came out at one time except the dish in question. 90 m for one serving of food is...

On our travels through Istria we came by Triest and where exited to read about the Coffee history of the town. So we looked at the possibilities for good coffee and settled for the Tommaseo. The caffè has some real charme back from the old days and so it is a really pleasant place to relax. As for the coffee it self we where unfortunately not as pleasantly surprised. We had Cappuccino, Late macchiato, Hot chocolate and a tiramisu. Cappuccino and Late macchiato where not really hot but rather lukewarm when they arrived at our table. The cappuccino was missing most of its milk foam and was rather another Late macchiato in a cup. But it doesn't stop there. The taste was plain disappointing. I was surprised to read at the door that they "just" serve plain old illy in that historic place but I had much better illy in other places around the world. There was just no full flavor to be found in that cappuccino or late macchiato. We where really disappointed. To top it of the water they served with the coffee had a noticeable chlorine taste. All of that would have been ok for having that coffee at a roadside stop but for a historic caffè with double the prices of the average Triest cafe a few blocks down it really left me wondering ... It's really a shame and I hope it was just an Easter Monday fluke. The two stars are only for the charme of the interior of...

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at this incredible restaurant during our honeymoon visiting Trieste for the very first time from Ireland and it quickly became one of the standout experiences of our trip.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by maître Loris, whose passion, knowledge, and exceptional recommendations made our evening unforgettable. Loris’s guidance through the menu and wine list was beyond impressive , each dish and pairing elevated our experience to something truly special.

We were served by the fantastic Dino- Jo, who were equally attentive, friendly, and professional throughout. The service was flawless warm, genuine, and perfectly paced.

The food? Simply the best we’ve had in years. So much so, we came back again during our short stay something we very rarely do on holiday. Every plate was bursting with flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and expertise.

This is more than just a restaurant it’s an experience, made memorable by people who clearly love what they do. Thank you Loris, Dino Jo for making our honeymoon in Trieste even more magical. We’ll be talking about this place for years to come and recommending it to everyone! You must visit when in Trieste. Loris you made our honeymoon dinner so special thank you so much, we can’t wait to plan our next...

Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing service. Food - seafood crudités and cicchetti were very tasty and a good choice to share within a group. Grilled octopus was delicious. Tuna tataki was fabulous and almost melting in mouth (one of the best seafood meals I have ever had). Tiramisu was a great experience. Besides the fact that you can clearly taste the coffee, and hence this dessert being tasty, one of the waiters made it in front of us which delighted our eyes too. Atmosphere - you can feel the history in this place, especially that it is the first café in Trieste and used to be a meeting place for intellectuals. Beautiful historical interior. Service - very professional with big extra (e.g. as mentioned above). The croatian waiter made the whole experience even nicer, he had good suggestions for the food and wine and we had a nice chat (e.g. about the Trieste and the café) thanks to him being well-read. Edit: Visited again - great again!!! Edit 2: Visit again. This time we had San Pietro fish which was one of the best fish meals I have ever had. While all of the waiters were doing great, I want to point out that Dino was excellent - the amount of discussion was on spot (talkative but not too much to be disturbing) and his presentation of tiramisu was amazing.

Caffè Tommaseo is the oldest café in Trieste and as there were many recommendations for visiting this restaurant we reserved for dinner. The location as such is very nice and the interior reflects the decor of a Viennese café. Unfortunately the food offered was of intermediate quality and the portions were very small. The service was very slow and the waiting time between courses was too long. At the end the bottle of wine I ordered was billed incorrectly. When consulting the waiter he tried to convince me that this was the correct price of my ordered bottle wine. When I asked to bring me the wine list again he finally agreed and solved the issue. During our visit we noticed many international tourists. Overall the restaurant equals a tourist trap at a very poor price-quality-ratio.
