Trattoria Caprese is a restaurant in Trieste that specializes in Neapolitan cuisine. The restaurant has a wide selection of pizzas and pasta dishes, as well as a few other items. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and the service is generally good. The food is average, with the pizzas being the best dish. The pasta dishes are a bit bland, and the ravioli is overcooked. Overall, Trattoria Caprese is a decent option for a casual meal in Trieste. Overall, I would recommend Trattoria Caprese to those looking for a casual meal in Trieste. However, I would advise against ordering the pasta dishes or ravioli, as they are not as good as the pizzas.

I asked in a souvenir shop nearby for good Pizza Restaurant and they recommended this restaurant. We wanted to taste different dishes so we ordered Margherita, Funghi e Cotto, Macheroni wit a green sauce with pistaccios and as when I asked Giovanni for advice he recommended to taste the fried pizza ( foto atrached). He explained me it was first fried and then baked in the overn. He also said he would invite me if I didn‘t like it. Just to say that I paid it at the end ;-). Everything very tasty and a good experience this alternative pizza. Maybe better to share with someone eatimg normal pizza.

The personnel speaks a strange language, for sure not italian, i ordered a calzone, nowhere was specified that for this kind of pizza the waiting time is longer, as in all the other pizzerie i went a fried pizza is ready in the same time of a normal pizza, but: All my friends got their dinner and i still waited for longer, no matter the place was full, they must organize to fullfill the greater people flux also in special occurings as the barcolana regatta, the only explanation i got was, always in a bad italian(later my friends told me this is "neapolitan"), that fried pizza takes longer, anyway i also ordered some red wine and it was freezing cold (unacceptable, served also in a glass with the price sticker still attached on), in the endless meantime (20 min waiting to order, 40 min wait for the pizza) i tried some of my friend's pizzas and the crust was good imo. Then finally the beast has arrived, no lying the best calzone i ever ate, perfect under every aspect, the only problem was the oil absorbing paper towel it was out on. By the time i started cutting the calzone, the latter started dissolving(linked photo), so i ended up eating some of the paper pieces falling off, this wasn't expected and removing the paper sheet fixed the problem 95%. The wine was ok, the waiting time for the pizza allowed me to taste it at ambient temperature with ease, a bit overpriced (5euro for 150ml) but i understand the reason because of the location, 11 euros for the calzone, really worth it as it was freakin good. 3 stars are honest considering the waiting time and the other issues. Then came the time to ask for the bill, the waiter told me 5 mins without even wanting to hear what i had to say, then after some time the bill came and we payed and left the restaurant.

This review consists of 2 reviews as we went 2 nights in a row. Part 1: Magnificent service, food and atmosphere. One of the best marinara pastas I have ever had. Fresh seafood and perfectly cooked pasta. Service was attentive and we were given free liquors to end our meal. Part 2: We went to dinner the next night with a family group of 16. We are from Australia and were catching up with Italian relatives. We were seated in a shopping mall laneway away from the restaurant. Service was non existent. It was like they didn't even know we were there. It took over 60 minutes for my sons gluten free pizza to arrive and it looked horrendous. Some dry base with uncooked passata slapped on it and unmelted cheese. It just couldn't be eaten. Very disappointing after a great first experience.

We went here for a late lunch and the staff seemed very busy and exhausted. Which of course is understandable but still, that's not the vibe you're looking for as a customer. Anyway, we got a table and the menus, and eventually we got what we ordered (one by one, we were a party of four and the last person got his meal when the first ones had already finished theirs). The food was okay, nice but nothing to be too excited about. We had seafood risotto, spaghetti with tomatoes, tuna tartare (actually my husband ordered another tartare on the menu, the meaty one, but ate what he got since we were all starving) and a contemporary pizza called Nonna Tatta or something. The location is nice on a small piazza.

Disappointing experience. 1. The short waiter seemed not to give a s*it about anything and was very rude. He also started to argue with another waiter for mistakes in the orders. 2. We were 7. From the first plate served to the 7th there was a time lapse of 20min minimum. 3. I ordered a gluten free pizza. First it was much smaller than the normal pizzas and it cost eur2,50 more. Second it was uncooked and full of water. The other pizzas were quite ok, to tell the whole story. The manager came and apologised for the mishap and he removed the 2 gluten free pizzas from the bill which we did not eat. At least he cared for customer service.
