We wanted to try two of the "special" breakfast options. The Hawaiian one, an exotic fruits based dish with a Berliner on side. Fruits were ok, and the pastry was good, but the dish itself doesn't really recall anything about the Hawaii, apart from the Kiwi and pineapple. The Israeli one, based on the Shakshuka traditional dish, was not even close to its original recipe. The pita bread that accompanied it wasn't good at all, it was very hard and tastelessly. (Maybe was a bit old). The dish itself should be done with pouched eggs in to a tomato sauce, topped with some greens herbs, but the eggs were hard instead, (full boiled) and the sauce was basically only tomato. Nothing really was about the other ingredients like onions, cumin or paprika...
I think, if you wanna enjoy the best food experience here, it is better to order some local traditional dish or pastries, accompanied with some coffee, but we wanted to give a try to a different choice.
Service wise the guy was extremely careful and approached us with very high empathy and professionalism.
Atmosphere is good. It is an historical place, with traditional interior designs. It can be very busy with some...
Read moreOf the many times that I have visited Trieste, there is one place that sparks a great sense of nostalgia for me and that is Caffe degli Specchi. It is a wonderful place to seat oneself and watch the people go by. Grab a little table off to the side and soon enough a server will come by and inquire about what you would like. An Aperol Spritz, perhaps? or maybe a fabulous espresso or cappuccino? Ah...my personal favorite is a Crodino. You will get a small plate of bite-sized snacks with your drink which adds to the whole pleasure factor. I associate Caffe degli Specchi with my father. This is the caffe where he used to come to read his paper in the morning or to make a brief stop while running errands. He would meet his friends here or arrange a date with my mom when they were young. In later years, it was just part of their day to sit down and have a drink to pass the time. He passed away a few years back, so now, when I get a chance to grab a table there myself, I can almost envision him sitting just a couple of tables away.....newspaper in hand. It is a classic establishment in Trieste, not...
Read moreLady at the entrance (dark hair in her 40) was extremely rude and walking around talking to us in Italian. Such a high and expensive caffe and staff has zero manners. We told her we do not speak Italian and asked her if she can speak in English. she looked at us in a weird way and still didn’t care about it. Later she started arguing with us in English with an excuse she dont know which language we speak (well we spoke in English and I found it very rude and impolite towards customer I had no choice but to ask for a manager. (short guy, black hair and fair skin. Not sure if he was the real manager but he at least apologized. I am surprise by the behavior of the staff. I hope the owner will read the review and will take the necessary action. We were served by Alessandro. He was very polite and helpful (which should be the manager or at the entrance) We spent 23 Eur for 2 coffee and some sweets. I do not recommend this place because of their service (it’s not...
