Ristorante Pizzeria da Nico e Lilly Tropea — Restaurant in Tropea

We were disappointed after reading the positive reviews. The greeting was not friendly, we were sat on a small table in the corner both looking at a wall. The rest of the restaurant was virtually empty but set out with larger tables. Service was unprofessional and surly. There was no explanation of the menu, and we were asked did we want the pizzeria or restaurant menu - why did we have to choose one or the other? The decor is very hard and brightly lit. The sound is echoing and we heard every word of a conversation at the other side of the room. The staff are unfriendly and don’t smile. My crab pasta was full of whole small crabs, which were inedible. My partner enjoyed his mussels and clams. Overall there was little atmosphere, the staff in the kitchen paid no notice to the customers, they were watching a screen on the pass, and let two young inexperienced individuals struggle. The food was not enjoyable. I told the waiter I wasn’t enjoying it but he just shrugged and walked away. The owners need to consider the customer experience from greeting, ambience, service and food. Edit: The rant below from the owner demonstrates how willing he is to take on feedback. Restaurants are facing tough times and need to take on feedback from customers, not berate them publicly for taking the time to make useful comments. Never mind, there are plenty of lovely...

We were quite disappointed with our experience, especially considering seafood is supposed to be a highlight of the tropean region. The atmosphere felt odd, as there was no background music. I ordered the spaghetti with mixed seafood of the day — the flavor was decent, but the amount of seafood was surprisingly small. My girlfriend’s grilled swordfish, which should be a specialty here, tasted very average (nothing better than what you’d find elsewhere), and it came without any sides. Even simple baked potatoes were €5 extra.

The service also left a lot to be desired. Staff showed little interest in the guests, never asked if we wanted more food or drinks, and it took a long time before we finally received the bill. For a restaurant that isn’t cheap, we expected much better. The €6 coperto only got us dried-out bread, which felt unreasonable.

The one positive was the wine — very good, and we appreciated the waiter’s recommendation. Unfortunately, overall, the food, service, and atmosphere didn’t live up to the prices or to Tropea’s reputation for...

Controllando su internet, io e la mia famiglia abbiamo deciso di prenotare in questo ristorante situato lontano dal centro di Tropea. Dal sito si notava un bel giardino molto curato invece giunti sul posto abbiamo avuto tutt'altra impressione... Ad alcuni tavoli c'erano sedie più morbide ad altri invece di paglia molto scomode. Per iniziare abbiamo ordinato delle pinse, motivo per il quale abbiamo scelto questo" ristorante" se così si può chiamare, ma il cameriere ci ha riferito che le avevano terminate. Al momento della prenotazione, fatta un giorno prima, potevano almeno avvisarci!!! In alternativa, abbiamo ordinato 2 antipasti di pesce. L'antipasto era composto da un involtino di branzino duro e freddo, cucinato sicuramente da più giorni con pesce scadente. Ci vuole coraggio a presentare piatti scadenti e cucinati male!!! Aveva un odore sgradevole e non stuzzicava affatto l'appetito. Nell'antipasto c'era anche n. 1 gambero con una specie di salsa andata a male, un pentolino con della cipolla che faceva vomitare solo a vederla e delle patate fredde con 2 pezzettini di polpo talmente duro che abbiamo fatto fatica a masticarlo. Insomma tutto molto disgustoso al palato. Abbiamo preso, poi, i ravioli con tartufo nero e gamberi locali, che di locale era solo il posto. Poi sono arrivati i ravioli alla nduja, pecorino e cipolla rossa. Questi ultimi erano sprovvisti di nduja... ed erano immangiabili. Ho avuto l'impressione che fossero quelli dei grandi supermercati mentre se li fanno pagare per pasta fatta in casa. La grigliata di pesce fresco, poi, è stata la ciliegina sulla torta. Appena mi hanno messo il piatto sotto il naso ho sentito immediatamente un odore di pesce andato a male. I 2 pezzi di spada che erano presenti nella grigliata non si riuscivano a spezzare con la forchetta, figuriamoci quanta fatica avrei fatto a masticarlo. Per scrupolo l'ho assaggiato ma subito l'ho risputato nel tovagliolo. Orrendo!!! Ma cosa credete di servirci la cacca!!!??? Se vado a cena fuori è per mangiare bene e poter assaggiare del cibo con prodotti locali, diverso dalla mia cucina che confrontandola con questo "ristorante" non è minimamente paragonabile. Talmente disgustati, abbiamo preferito alzarci, senza nemmeno sapere che dolci avessero, andando via più affamati di quando siamo entrati e diretti verso un altro ristorante. Ovviamente abbiamo pagato un conto alquanto salato senza aver potuto "gustare" nulla. Non vi fa onore la vostra cucina e se volete continuare con la ristorazione cambiate chef e soprattutto acquistate pesce fresco... Sicuramente non ritornerò più in questo posto quindi mi avete fregato una sola volta perché alla seconda giro alla larga! La mia recensione dovrebbe essere un biglietto da visita per tutti coloro che intendono prenotare da voi. Se amate mangiare bene con prodotti di qualità sicuramente non è il ristorante adatto a voi! Ovviamente abbiamo fatto presente il nostro disappunto per il cibo che ci veniva servito, ma se ne sono fregati altamente. Di solito quando capitano questi incidenti di percorso si cerca di venire...
