This was my third visit in these last 3 years. Food and service habe been consistently great every single time I visited.
Being accompanied by other "foodies" we took Gregorio (the Restaurant Manager)'s suggestion to go for a number of dishes to taste the variety of foods they can offer. As a starter, we had the mixed "assaggi" of cold cut meats together with the heart f the burrata. They could have also included some sea food but since one of the people I was with is allergic to sea food, we opted to stick to "ground" animals.
In typical Italian style, the food was light and tasty. Describing the heart of the burrata as "amazing" would be an understatement. Simply fantastic. We then moved on to the spaghetti carbonara. Ironically, even though this is typically a Roman dish, it's the best carbonara I ever had.
The carbonara was then followed by plin (they're like little ravioli with a beef filling) in beef sauce. Once again, they were amazing. The great meal ended with a wonderful tagliata di fassone on a bed of fries. The meat was so tender and juicy, that I can still taste it!
The food was accompanied by another great recommendation by Gregorio: the dolcetto d'alba. As an "easy wine" drinker, I highly recommend this fruity and light bodied wine to those who share my same tastes in wine.
Having devoured 4 dishes, we couldn't even consider a dessert as we were bursting at the seams.
On a different note, just to give you an idea about how hospitable the team at Casaslurp is, I just want to share this brief anecdote with you. As I said before, I had already visited this place on 2 former occasions (incidentally, I forgot to add that this is my daughter's favourite restaurant) and as we were passing by in front of it, I wanted to show the quirky design to the people I was with.
Even though it was still 11.55 (5 minutes before opening), the owner saw us peeking in and opened the door for us. When I explained why we were peeking in, he took the time to give us a "guided tour" of the place - including the beautiful cellar. When we told the owner and Gregorio that we came all the way from Malta to follow Juventus (and I inquired where we can get tickets for the subsequent Champions League match), Greogrio gave us directions and suggested that we tell the ticket booth vendor that he sent us to him.
When we visited the ticket booth, we could understand why Gregorio suggested that we drop his name as he's a grumpy young man who initially made it very difficult for us to get the tickets. The minute we mentioned Gregorio, he decided to sell us the tickets.
On our way back to Piazza San Carlo, we happened to bump into Gregorio in front of the restaurant who immediately asked us whether we managed to get the tickets, and needless to say, we told him what had happened. Gregorio immediately dialled the grumpy guy to thank him.
If this is not going the extra mile to help clients, I don't...
Read moreI decided to organize our yearly Christmas dinner with all my friends. When I tried to book a table of 12, they requested I leave a downpayment (never have I been asked to do that before). I had to go to the restaurant twice because the waiters that worked during lunch didn’t want to accept said payment. Finally on the night of our special dinner we were deeply horrified not only with the service we received but with the food. It was terrible. Nothing but store bought agnolotti and tiny (and I mean tiny) portions. While we were finishing our desert, the owner of the “osteria” proceeded to turn off the lights as to tell us to get up and leave THREE TIMES(!!) While we were paying the cashier miscalculated and we all had to come back to pay an extra 4€ . For terrible service and inferior quality food. Never coming back to this place and you...
Read moreIf you want incredible Piemontese food you can’t go wrong. The Vitello Tonnato is award winning and award deserving. Incredible meat and even more incredible sauce. Plin are done with the traditional 3 roasts and are tasty and satisfying. The thickness of the pasta is just perfect to grand a perfect bite and an exaltation of the savoury filling. The meat dishes are perfectly cooked and with balanced and interesting flavours. All of this can be paired with excellent wines that are expertly recommended by the excellent staff. And not to forget the desserts. I am not much of a sweet tooth but I have been extremely impressed with their selection and flavours. A small and perfectly cured menu for a...
