The name "Porta Nuova" is due to the name of the new southern gate of 1620 , due to the first expansion of the historic center of Turin towards the so-called "Città Nova", or rather the urban expansion wanted above all towards the south by Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy . In fact, the ancient southern gate of via Santa Teresa at the corner of via San Tommaso (called "Porta Marmorea") was demolished at the beginning of the 14th century , the first masonry "Porta Nuova" of 1620 was only temporary, located between the current Piazza Carlo Felice and the initial stretch of the so-called Via Nuova (today's Via Roma ).
The "gate" was, in fact, only to be part of the wider scenographic project of the city, essentially organized for the arrival of Christine of France , which took place the same year, on the occasion of her wedding with Duke Vittorio Amedeo...
Read moreI had to take a train to go to Milan..I only hat 4 minutes until the train was leaving, I saw that it was leaving from binnario 16, I ran to get to the train, I saw that the destination was Milan, so I took the train. Apparently there were two trains going to Milan at approximately same hour..the first one (my train) had a journey of 1h and the second one, 1h54. After a few minutes, I realized that I took the wrong train, so I almost lost my plane. I know that I should have checked again the number og the train, not to look only at the destination, but how can you put two similar trains one next to each other, and nobody next to them..because I wanted to ask someone (I had a feeling that the interior of the train wasn't the one I was expecting), but no one was there...so even if I had my part of blame, I also blame the ones from the...
Read moreGreat station, trains and routes, beautiful building, amazing stores. BUT, the worst passenger services in the world! If you need to go to the toilet (which are only two of them by the way, from what some worker told me), you have to buy something from a store. And they give you a printed qr code, which you can use ONLY ONCE! Good luck if you have to wait here for a train for a few hours. That's how I ended up spending like 15 euro just to buy bottles of water that I had to throw away, so my wife and I can go to the toilet for a few times. Great waste of money, plastic and paper Torino! Also, it would have been worth it if the toilets were clean, but they stink and are awful. Ruined my...
