What a beautiful restaurant and winery. We were welcomed immediately and were made to feel like we were important. I didn’t get the ladies names, but they were also attentive and smiling and very helpful. All this without a booking but I recommend making one ..the owner came and greeted us and was happy to have a chat about his origins, the restaurant and about the winery. He was relaxed and friendly with his team, which I respect. When he was leaving for the day he came to our table and thanked us personally. Excellent etiquette and much appreciated. we were lucky and grateful. It was busy but food came out quickly and was delicious..I recommend the ‘Bistecca Fiorentina’ it fed the four of us, and we took some home too. Note- The photos of empty plates. You must know empty plates are what the chef is looking for. Compliments to the chefs. The did great! The wine was delicious, and I highly recommend the red label Sangiovese. If you understand how difficult it is to make this wine(as I do) then you can appreciate and applaud how easy this winery makes it look. Delicious full fruit driven but not showing off and yet lasts long enough on the palate to bring a smile on your face. Congratulations!!🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 Truly a lovely experience and finishing with a tour of the winery, massive barrels with Elia as our guide. He was knowledgeable of the history of the winery, which dates back to 1200’s being the oldest winery in Montepulciano and probably the most important winery of the region. Elia was a very friendly and attentive server as well. Always moving around the tables with ease and smiling. He can sing too! So, book and go when in Montepulciano, tell him Rita sent...
Read moreFood is very tasty and has a good price/quality!
Wine is relatively expensive and you pay around 5-6 euro’s for very little wine. You would expect a winery to have at least the same prices for a bottle at their restaurant as in their shop so people buy their bottles in the end. Their nobile is 30 euro’s when order it at their restaurant while the same bottle is 15 euro’s inside their shop... tasting wines is 14 euro’s for three small glasses of wine.
Some of the staff are very friendly but not all. Our waitress was not particularly nice and was also slow and forgetting. We felt awkward but we were unfortunately not the only ones experiencing this. Luckily another waitress attended the requests we had.
Only a single man/women toilet for the whole restaurant and winery - without a...
Read moreAwesome spot for lunch in a beautiful town! The wines were all sensational, and we especially enjoyed the Poggio Alla Sala Parceto, recommended by one of the amazing and professional staff. The cellar tour after lunch really sealed the deal. This place was incredible. Salamis and wines ageing in a very low temperature, authentic space. We ate the Vernaccia soaked coniglio, potate rostato, insalata and tiramisu. All awesome! Could be the best coffee we’ve had as well in the area, which says a lot because we really enjoyed the coffee in Italia. The view from this restaurant is also worth mentioning, Montepulciano is a beautiful, elevated town, and at Gattavecchi Cantina you can really appreciate some of the rolling Tuscan hillside views....
