Just to be perfectly honest…. I could have accepted the priciness of the food… I could have accepted the lack of filling in the pastries… I could have even accepted the weakness of the espresso. However, what I couldn’t accept was what happened next… The man at the counter asked us if we wanted to buy a can of their coffee beans while serving another local his espresso with a tall glass of water from a bottle of purified water and I’ve been to Italy enough times to know it is customary to get water with your espresso if you ask. So, I asked if we could have water as well. To our surprise, the man at the counter gave us TAP WATER. I guess we could have asked why, but it would have been pointless. It was just weird, not to mention RUDE. If he didn’t have the common sense to conceal his bias / prejudice by offering us the same, it would be futile to mention it. We paid the bill and left. We said we were leaving, my husband was already at the counter paying (they saw). They called the owner, an old grumpy (very sad and unhappy) man, who started shouting using F words.
