After exploring Italy for 7 days, we fancied a change in cuisine. We love mexican food back home so was rather excited when we found this restaurant. We arrived at 19:45 and when we walked in it was busy which was a good sign. Initially we spoke to a lady at the bar who began to explain that they were very busy and apologised that they couldn't fit us in. We told her that was ok and we were prepared to leave as we had found an Indian restaurant online as backup if this happened. Her male colleague then rushed over and told us he could seat us until 9:30, we thanked him and sat down. We were given menus and it took at least 20 minutes for our order to be taken. We ordered veggie nachos, the veggie burrito and the cheese quesadilla between the two of us and 2 beers. It took some time for our drinks to come but they were followed by the nachos soon after. These were not your typical mexican nachos. The cheese sauce was poor, they had lots of rice on and were cold. Edible but disappointing, we thought maybe this was their take on them. Our burrito and quesadilla arrived and we began to cut these in half so we could share. The quesadilla had chicken in and with us both being vegetarian this was not a welcomed mistake. However after finally tracking down the waiter, we explained this to him and the took this back for a fresh one to be made and apologised. It was clear that the staff were run off their feet. We also requested hot sauce which we had to ask for again twice. The burrito was filled with iceberg lettuce and chopped up tomato, again not to a Mexican standard. The quesadilla was fine but better salsa would have improved it for sure. After finishing we just wanted to pay and leave. A group of 12 people got up to pay at the bar but we were happy to wait in line. Whilst waiting, it was evident that the 3 staff on were not allocated specific jobs, rather running around to the next job before finishing any task. The group finished paying and left. It was now our turn and the waiter then took someone their food. After arriving back to the bar he began to serve another lady who had only just arrived to pay. Her card was declined twice and in between he walked off to clear tables and serve drinks. Finally we'd had enough and complained that we just wanted to pay so we could leave, especially after being served the wrong food. The waitress apologised and shared some disgruntled words to her male colleague and then provided us with a bill. I checked this and saw we had been charged for chicken. I raised this because it cost more and explained my frustration as they already had served us meat as vegetarians. She then argued with us that they cost the same and after checking the menu realised we were right. We finally left feeling extremely frustrated, we'd have rather have gone elsewhere as it was very clear they cannot manage their workload. Sadly we do not recommend this restaurant, it is short staffed and the overall quality of...
Read moreI used to go to this Mexican restaurant many years ago, when it was on Fondamenta della Misericordia, and I missed it from the very day I found out it had closed. So when I heard that it had come back to life in Calle de l'Aseo I couldn't contain my happiness. After my visit, I am happy to report that good food and good vibes haven't really changed. Unfortunately I couldn't have the carne asada burrito I used to order because I have since become vegetarian, and the vegetarian burrito really doesn't compare. The stuffing is mainly lettuce and rice, with a sprinkle of black beans. The black beans portion should be increased a fair bit for that burrito to be tasty. We also had rice and beans as a started and really enjoyed it. We found the bottled beers quite expensive, and ended up paying 20 euros for two glass bottoms of (very nice) tequila. But hey, nobody made us, and the prices were displayed, so it was our fault for not checking before ordering. Overall, I am happy I have my good old Mexican restaurant back. Just, next time I will stick to non-alcoholic drinks and maybe try the vegetarian quesadilla instead of...
Read moreVery bad service from three separate members of staff.
Upon arrival, we were initially given a 2-minute wait to be seated at a vacant table outside by a member of staff who looked to be in charge, which turned into being ignored by the side of the entrance for almost 20 minutes. Meanwhile, one member of staff was happily sipping from a margarita we wished we had, dancing by the side of the bar rather than clearing our table.
Only when we made a move to leave were we finally ushered to the table by the original member of staff who, now visibly annoyed at our presence, gave us nothing in the way of an apology for the delay, and quickly scuttled back inside.
We were at the table furthest from the door, so we knew we were in for a difficult time getting our order taken, but we weren’t prepared for a further 20-minute wait, multiple instances of eye contact and reciprocated nods and waves with a third member of staff, before finally giving up and going elsewhere.
On the upside, there’s a great Middle Eastern restaurant just around he corner called Orient Experience that is highly recommend if Iguana don’t...
