An absolute delight, hidden gem, deserving of its 9 out of 10 score! For me they are 10 of 10, or 5 of 5 on googlescoring! ^^ On Poste Vecie's website they claim to be the oldest restaurant in Venice, dating from the 1500's! It looks pretty ancient, and traditional, yet well looked after, fully refurbished and functional, entrance is a bridge across the little canal, low ceiling at the door entrance, “mind your head”, a gorgeous fireplace to the left, and after dropping our coats and bag, we were shown a table across that fireplace. You're treated like royalty, welcomed with a treat of flutes of bubbly while inspecting the QR menu on our phones, the restaurant, sophisticated and refined. Food choice is varied, what we’d chose delicious and classy. As usual my husband’s dish better than mine! I went for the frittura di pesce crostacei and verdure. What came was a huge dish with a lagostine and a huge prawn and seafood, which on the looks, much more beautiful, and delicious tastewise, and a huge dish, too much for me... Hubby went for the seppie nero a veneziana, and hum! He let me have a bite, the seppie sauce (very dark sauce around the fish) was fantastic, smooth and exquisite, magnificent! Next time it will be that one for me! ^^ To reach this restaurant, was not so easy. We had been en route along the picturesque labyrinth of core Venice narrow lanes, northwest direction having just passed Rialto Bridge some 5 mins before, and at 1pm, time for a pitstop for a bite. There’s a multitude of options on the way, but like many, we don't just drop by and trust our luck, or number of tourists sat at the restaurant. Looked up in googlemaps, checked reviews, we like minimum 4.5 of 5, in a couple hundred super positive reviews -- that'd be difficult to fake! All in all, greatly recommended! When we’re back to Venice, we will...
Read moreWe just finished our dinner at Poste Vecie and If I had one word to describe it, it would be disappointing. The food was great, cannot complain about that. However, I reserved a table over a month in advance of our visit, knowing I would be proposing to my girlfriend of the time, and wanted a romantic location to celebrate, and this place is listed as one of the most romantic in Venice. Despite our reservations it seems we were seated in a "party room". We were seated next to a large group of 16, that had 8 young children. Instead of a romantic atmosphere we were surrounded by loud, running, shouting children and the sounds of Sonic the Hedgehog, as one of them brought their Nintendo Switch and were loudly playing it throughout our dinner. It felt more like we were at a TGI Fridays, or Applebee's. Further, the service was terrible. Our dishes were hastily dropped in front of us with little to no explanation. As an example, we ordered a sampler of 3 oysters. The waiter nearly forgot to tell us which oysters were which, and provided no explanation on where these oysters where from, or what the seasonings accompanying them were. We also ordered a bottle of wine and the just placed the bottle on our table stating that they ran out of stands for the wine. This left us extremely cramped at our 2 person table. Not a big deal except when the table next to us ordered wine they were able to find a stand. I would expect that if they obtained an extra stand they would have brought it to us, the table already waiting for one. In summary, good food (but that is not hard to find in Venice), but poor atmosphere and service ruined...
Read moreWow. What a way to end our stay in Venice. This perfectly quaint, off the beaten touristy-path, romantic restaurant made our date night feel more like our honeymoon than anywhere we've been thus far. History time: The Restaurant "Poste Vecie" dates back to 1500 A.D. (yea... we know right?!) and is the oldest restaurant in Venice!!! The restaurant took over the ancient Serenissima, which was the place where the frenetic activities of postal sorting went down. On the walls you can admire letters, bubbles, and coins that have been perfectly preserved. An example of Poste Vecie art is the frescoes of the 7 deadly sins donated by Cherubbini to the old Post Office (Sadly, the art and other memorabilia is not pictured out of respect for the privacy and atmosphere of all the couples in the restaurant). From the antipasta, "Selezioné di Cicchetti" (select seafood snacks) to her, "Ravioli Ripieni al Branzino" (white wine & Seabass stuffed Ravioli special tonight) to my, "Tagliata di Tonno con Pistacchi" (Pistacchio crusted Tuna Steak w/veggies) to the red wine & Spritz di Campari, we loved every bite and sip. This was by far our best date night destination since we've been out of the country. Quiet and romantic atmosphere, candle lit table setting and ambiance, amazing food, fantastic service, exceeded expectations, & so reasonably priced. Its places like these that either stoke a burning flame or rekindle an old one. Highly recommended. It also helps when your wife is the finest woman on the planet and she is sitting across from you enjoying the food, atmosphere, and you to the fullest. Trip to...
