Ah, Venice! The city of canals, romance, and... the rudest bakery staff you’ll ever have the misfortune of encountering! My partner and I stumbled upon this "charming" bakery, dreaming of Italian pastries and espresso. Little did we know, we were about to experience the real dolce vita—but with an extra dose of bitter.
Upon entering, we were greeted with... nothing. Nada. Zip. It was as if we were invisible, which I assume is the bakery’s special magic trick for tourists. After what felt like a solid hour of standing there like sad, sugar-deprived statues, we finally got their attention. Excited to order, we politely asked in English. Silly us.
The staff shot back a response in lightning-fast Italian (think Ferrari speeds) designed, I’m convinced, to confuse and humiliate us. And when I mustered up some basic Italian in return, the look they gave me could have wilted the freshest croissant. I’m pretty sure one of the pastries died on the spot. Without saying a word, they just... walked away.
It seems this bakery’s motto is: “Why serve tourists when you can perfect the art of ignoring them?”
In conclusion, if you’re a fan of being snubbed, insulted, and possibly cursed at in record-speed Italian, this is the place for you. If you’re hoping for a pleasant bakery experience, go somewhere else. Preferably far, far away. Horrible staff and terrible image for Venice’s hospitality. A 1 star rating is far too generous for...
Read moreI came here because there were good reviews about these chain of cafés being historic with great coffee. However, I wish I had gone elsewhere and I ended up leaving before I finished.
I ordered a coffee and two cookies and they came out but the cookies didn’t taste freshly baked and it was just after 10 in the morning. The coffee was OK not great. Don’t know why it had such a good review online. Then I asked for honey and the waiter said they would bring it. The waiter never returned and I had finished my coffee I wanted to get another one so I went inside and the waiter was sitting there eating behind the counter. I told him I wanted to order, and he just pointed to go out and wait at my table. I had to wait until he was finished eating until he came back out and then said ‘oh the honey’. I showed him I had already finished my coffee and he said oh he thought it was brought out. I wonder who would’ve brought it out because he was the only waiter serving outside?
I wanted another coffee and cookie but I just paid and left. I didn’t finish the second cookie, the amareno marmalata one, because it wasn’t very good. Onto another café to try to finish...
Read moreCame here today and I need to say that there’s a member of the staff that should not work here. We were looking for a place to get a drink and relax, the female waiter came to the table talking in Italian, I kindly replied I could not understand and if she could speak in English, she answered “no english” like we should go away if we are not Italian. Then stood there waiting for us to magically learn Italian and talk to her. She was so rude that we literally felt bad for staying there and it was not relaxing at all. People like that should think twice before working in places like this. If you’re having a bad day that is not your customer’s fault. If you do not like tourists just don’t work in a place where people naturally stop to have a good time and then you ruin that...
