My husband and I were in Verona for one night (28th August 2019). We were celebrating my birthday and wanted a special and romantic restaurant to eat at. Osteria Ristorante Ponte Pietra was recommended by the New York Times and also had a Michelin Star, we were excited! I read a few negative reviews but thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt (which I obviously regret).
The experience couldn't have been more disappointing. On arrival the staff were unwelcoming, almost to the point of being rude. Our table was on the lower terrace, which was lovely and romantic. It took 45 minutes to get a drink, with our waitress saying they were busy upstairs. The restaurant wasn't even half full! We ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. The anchovy toasts were nice enough and the croquettes fine, however our mains (roasted octopus with burrata and duck with goats cheese) were SO disappointing! The duck was chewy and the goats cheese just didn't work. The octopus was actually disgusting - badly cooked and fishy tasting, as though it wasn't fresh - I left half of this untouched. The waitress never asked how our food was and we had to top up our own wine (a very nice Chianti I have to say), completely unacceptable for a Michelin Star restaurant.
We were prepared to just write off the meal as a bad experience and move on, without writing a review. I changed my mind when I went to pay and the owner, who processed the payment was so dismissive and arrogant and didn't even say a word to us. At this point I had to say something and when I expressed our disappointment he got aggressive and accused me of not being happy with the price of the meal. We knew going into the meal what it would cost and are always prepared to pay for good food and service.
I am a chef, own a catering company and have eaten all around the world and this was without a doubt one of the worst dining experiences I have had. I am a firm believer that you can taste the love that goes into food. The atmosphere at Osteria Ponte Pietra was loveless and tense, which obviously filtered, from the owner at the top, down. No wonder their food was SO average. My advice would be to go to the neighbouring Terrazza Bar al Ponte for a drink, where you can experience the same view, a much happier atmosphere and MUCH better service. Then go find a bustling Trattoria filled with...

Read moreI want to start this review off by saying I have rarely, if ever, written or told wait staff of bad food/service but this is the exception.
I do applaud this place with the clever Michelen false advertising. Édouard Michelin Would be rolling in his grave if he knew this place was using his good name to advertise this ‘food’.
I will start with the only good thing I can think of about this restaurant. The location is great that is undeniable. Right on the Adige. The restaurant itself looks as if it’s about to serve you the best food of your life. The manager is unfriendly the space is compact all the makings of a good restaurant. Unfortunately this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Our first dish was the risotto. I believe the Americans call this dish riceoroni because it was literally nothing more than rice and hamburger meat (or as they called it bone marrow). They then brought out the main course which was accompanied by the worst potatoes ( which the waiter insisted we have) I have ever had in my life. That last line is actually debatable I’ve had some bad potatoes but when you’re paying 130 euros for a meal one would expect decent potatoes (and please read other reviews to confirm this).
The most disgraceful thing was they served my girlfriend pork accidentally (which she hasn’t eaten for years) and got sick. After she felt sick she didn’t want to eat anything else and was still charged for her main course.
Now please listen to this last part. I know that you’re maybe skeptical of this review as a vendetta for a misunderstanding but I wouldn’t let them serve this to murders on death row for their last meal. Do yourself a favor if you go to a restaurant in Verona and nobody is speaking Italian leave...
