I would have given 5 stars for the friendliness of the host and the wide selection of whisky. He even made us a very tasty Old Fashioned (which we didn’t order). However, there’s a huge problem that overshadowed everything—the host tried to cheat us.
When we checked the bill, he initially claimed it was 20,000 yen. We found this odd because we only ordered 4 glasses, and one of them was not ordered (we assumed it was his treat). When we pointed out the discrepancy, he apologized and said it was a mistake, revising the total to 19,000 yen. We were shocked—how could he just casually deduct 1,000 yen like that? It felt so random!
Even assuming the Old Fashioned was supposed to be paid for, and considering the prices (3 glasses at 3,000 yen each, 1 glass at 4,000 yen, and the Old Fashioned at 2,000 yen), the total still didn’t add up. Then he mentioned there was a tax and a 500-yen service charge per person. We used a calculator and worked out the total to be 17,500 yen. When we explained this to him, he admitted we were correct, apologized again, and said he had made a mistake.
He kept apologizing, but it was impossible to believe such a mistake could happen. He had confidently told us the total was 20,000 yen without even checking the bill.
This was a horrible experience and my first time encountering such dishonesty in Japan!
So please, be careful if...
Read moreI had an amazing experience at Bar Bronze in Hakata. The owner, Shinji-san, is like a whiskey wizard—his knowledge is incredible! He introduced us to a fantastic selection of whiskeys, especially from local Kyushu distilleries. Thanks to him, I discovered unique bottles like Kanosuke and Tsunuki that I would have never known otherwise.
The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy great drinks. Highly recommend this bar if you're into Japanese whiskey or just want to explore something new with a passionate and friendly host. A...
Read moreHad a great evening at this bar. Bartender was friendly, speaks pretty good English. When I asked him about the music that was playing, we got into a great discussion about Japanese jazz fusion (Casiopea, Masayoshi Takanaka, etc.), though it was also apparent he is a big Baby Metal fan.
He even put on concert videos of these artists on the TV/speakers. Ordered a few drinks and had a great night. Highly recommend for the...
