If I was rating purely based on the food and the atmosphere I would have given this place a 4 or maybe even 5. But I had the absolute most stressful time eating here.
You are handed a picture-less, price-less menu and expected to order. When asked for more info our first server told us to check their IG story highlights for photos of the food. We had to ask again for the prices and she directed us to a janky and unintuitive website that had the prices (Japanese only, oh and some prices turned out to be wrong when we saw the bill)
For the mains section on the menu, the first server told us that one order will come in two plates. But later, through many questions and having gone through two other servers we found out that they force you to order one main per person so what we thought were individual dishes were doubled in price.
The other disappointment was the clay pot rice, we thought we had ordered a rice dish with cooked items but it was really just a clay pot full of plain rice with many very small side dishes.
The final bill came on a handwritten note with our total cost and we had to separately ask for an itemized bill.
I understand that some of the issues came from there being a language barrier but it really feels like this place intentionally hides the prices from you and expect you to blindly order and pay for food. The lack of transparency just left a bad taste in my mouth. While the food was good, it was definitely not...
Read moreThe food was wonderful albeit in small portions. Robata style is something quite special and one must try once in a life time. I’ve been to Hyakushiki before they moved and I was looking forward to coming back again. But if you, like me, book through Tablecheck, there is a 7000 per person booking fee. Combining this with the price of the food, then it is actually expensive. And the highlight of my experience this time: there was a mix up in the system for bookings. There were doubling bookings of 2 under my name, so I guess I ended up paying 4x 7000 booking fee for only 2 people. The reception lady gave us some attitude for the double booking. And she said in a normal circumstance they would reject us even entering. Given that we paid 14000 for the 2 empty seats that were potentially not even booked by us, I think us as customers were on the losing end, so the attitude was very unnecessary.
Word of advice, next time just book through the telephone without all of the problems above and you will actually enjoy this...
Read moreThis izakaya delivered one of the best dining experiences we’ve had across all our visits to Japan. We stumbled upon it by chance, and from the moment we walked in, both the front of house and kitchen staff made us feel like part of their family. The warmth and hospitality were exceptional. Every single dish was prepared with such passion and attention to detail. The food was outstanding and beautifully showcased Fukuoka’s local culinary traditions. We spent two wonderful hours there, enjoying fantastic drinks and memorable food that sparked genuine joy with each bite. If you’re in Fukuoka, this is without question one of the best dining options in the city. Highly...
