I only ate out at a few places in Fukuoka because I wasn't in town for that long and I had to keep my lunches short as I was working remotely. Fishman was my favorite place out of the places I did get to try. It's located on the corner in a residential area -- I'm basing this off of my walk from Acros and what I saw along the way. The interior is nicely decorated and the restaurant team was great. You order online at your table and the menu includes English, which was helpful because we can only read a handful of kanji characters. Not enough to order intelligently. Lastly, the food was delicious and creative. Since ordering is done online, we kept on putting things into our cart and finally had to cut ourselves off. Everything looked good. It made it easier to get what we wanted though. At another restaurant, we had to remember the location of the items we wanted so that we could point to it when they came to take our order.
We enjoyed everything, but some things that stood out - 1) The tamagoyaki cooked table side. You get to pick the eggs that you want in it. Not sure that we could tell the difference, but it was a nice touch. The 30 ingredient salad was very tasty and contained a mix of fresh, fried and boiled veggies. The chicken wing came in a cute box and there was some surprise rice in it. The fried soft tofu with sesame had great taste and texture. The corn caramel was delicious too. Also, their homemade ginger ale is wonderful.
Another plus, easy to make...
Read moreI was looking for a true Japanese izakaya in Hakata, Fukuoka, and Google pointed me to this restaurant. It’s very popular, with a high 4.++ rating. Good idea to make a reservation! We sat at the counter where we could watch the chefs cooking, which was really fun.
The atmosphere is busy and lively, so it’s not the best spot for a quiet meal. But if you want to experience real Japanese culture, you’ll love it here.
The food was great! We had the Mackeral & Beef sushi, Fried tofu, Black Pig Shumai, lots of small plates of appetisers , Sashimi Stair & One of the coolest parts was watching the waitress make a tamago (egg) omelette right in front of us. Even though we couldn’t read much Japanese, we got to choose the eggs ourselves, which was a nice touch.
The dishes were very unique, and you definitely shouldn’t miss the curry crab rice—it was delicious. We had lots of food and a lot more of Sake! If you’re in Fukuoka and want a fun, authentic Japanese dining experience, this is a...
Read moreWhat a great experience this was! The chef came out to engage with us as he assembled our sweet potato dish and emptied a shaved truffle all over it! The tamago egg with dashi was cooked in front of us and we were given a choice of 5 different eggs to choose from. The food was so creative. There was a potato with beef pie made to look like a slice of cake. This was absolutely delicious!! The stairway to heaven sashimi was excellent as well. We had a great experience here. The only thing was that the counter seats we had were at the end of the counter and were nailed to the ground so it was a bit uncomfortable. The place was packed and these were the only seats left. We didn’t have reservations so we were just glad that they could fit us in slightly before closing. But overall we had such an amazing experience that I would hands down recommend this to all my friends and come back whenever I...
