Sanuki Udon Shinari — Restaurant in Fukuoka

Read great things about this place and it definitely delivered. We went early around 11am, after checking out Ohori park. Sanuki is about 5min walk from Ohorikoen station. Staff all very friendly and polite, some of them speak english as well Interior is neat, with nice japanese wood benches and you can see the staff going everything fresh in front of you. Best udon I have had in my many trips to Japan. The udon is thicker than normal, but is smooth, chewy and has a great bite to it. Tempura is light, crisp, but not oily or heavy. Even though we had to queue for 2 hours, it was worth the wait. I wasn't hungry at first when we start waiting but by the time we got into the restaurant I couldn‘t wait to have lunch. There were a lot of Koreans. Must have been in some influencer blog/ instagram. When you wait in line they hand out some menues and take your order. The menu is only in Japanese but with Google Translate it worked fine. The udon itself was really chewy, exactly how I like it. The mix with the tempura made the dish perfect. For the vegetable tempura you've got different vegetables.

Food is good definitely a style of udon I have never tried and I have tried various styles in the past. The udon noodles are served cold and udon sauce is poured on top. It’s served with fried veggies and don’t forget to add the lemon juice on top. It’s a creates a good balance between the udon and the fried veggies. Also tried the traditional udon with hot soup base. Has a deep beefy flavor which was awesome but it’s not their main. If you like mentai try the mentai over rice cake.
