Worst gyoza I have ever eaten. The texture inside was almost sandy, it was so dry and had an overwhelming garlic flavour. The after taste lingered for hours and I suspect the mince was boar tainted. The service was awful. I understand that they are short staffed, but the staff were so busy they ignored countless tables wanting service. We sat down and they rudely asked us what we wanted without giving us a menu. Note we do speak Japanese, I don't think this place would be accommodating for any tourists especially those unable to speak Japanese. No pictures allowed inside. The place was decorated nicely with lots of pictures of patrons and famous people but the place lacks atmosphere because of the bad attitude from the staff. Overall, I think this place WAS good like 10 or 20 years ago and ever since then they have been riding on their reputation and customer loyalty. Give this...
Read moreHakata Gion Tetsunabe is a gyoza(=Dumpling) restaurant located in Gion-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and is considered the originator of Hakata's famous “iron pot gyoza. The restaurant serves really delicious gyoza, which are small dumplings laid out in a hot iron pot and baked to a crisp! The gyoza are handmade daily and filled with cabbage, minced meat, and other ingredients. The bite-sized, crispy skin and fluffy ingredients make for an exquisite meal. We also recommend adding yuzu kosho (Japanese citrus pepper) to the gyoza sauce. A la carte dishes such as braised chicken wings, spicy cod roe, and potato salad are...
Read moreDelicious gyoza izakaya! There's normally a line to get into this place but it runs fairly quickly. You gotta order all your gyoza at the start because you can't order more later on, but with sides you can add on. We ordered four servings of gyoza between two and it was very satisfactory. It comes in a pan, hot and crispy. You make your own sauce, with soysauce vinegar, chilli oil or fried chilli. Potato salad was pretty tasty, had apples and cucumber and bacon in it. Price was decent for the portions and service was okay. Atmosphere was lively and noisy. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice with the pictures and signatures from...
