Highly recommend. We came here based on the google reviews and were not disappointed! Small family run place with a traditional Japanese feel. The couple who run the place were patient and understanding of our lack of Japanese. My partner is veggie but eats fish abroad due to lack of options. This place had lots of veggie options and if you ask politely they will cook dishes to your needs. The off-menu agedashi tofu has been mentioned a few times in the reviews so we tried it....SO GOOD! the sauce it came in is probably the best sauce I've ever tasted. Delicious! ごちそうさま If you're in the area you'll regret not giving it a try. Easy to access up and down the mountain from the Ninohirairiguchi bus stop at the top of the hill and the train station (Chokokunomori) at the bottom.

We went in for dinner and were welcomed warmly by the staff. The menu is available in Japanese, English and Chinese which is very helpful and the selection of food lies between sashimi, deep fried fish and meat dishes, rice bowls, egg and chicken dishes and fried veggies. We ordered beer and oolong tea with the maguro (thuna) fry set and the katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) and both came with miso soup and a small plate of tsukemono (pickled veggies). Everything was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced 😊 definitely a great recommendation for the chokokunomori/gora area!

This place is outstanding! We stumbled upon it by chance after visiting the open air museum, and it’s easily been my favorite meal in Hakone and one of my favorite meals of my entire Japan trip. The agedashi tofu is an off-menu order that is perfectly lightly crisp on the exterior with a soft interior, and so flavorful. The chicken katsu was also so crispy without being at all oily. We also got the tuna, fried potatoes, and grilled eggplant. Everything was delicious, and this place is so affordable, too! Cozy, clean interior and friendly service. Highly recommend!

The cutest, nicest couple run this small shop of just 3-4 small tables. Food is solid! The best agedashi tofu we’ve had (which is a ton!). Katsu, gyoza, butter eggplant were all so tasty. I love how their drinks aren’t overly sweet. Try their lemon sour - shochu with fresh lemon and soda water! Sometimes certain items can sell out. Cash only. Also be patient. This is a very small shop with only two people running it. So they will bring every dish out one by one as it’s cooked. But everything is fresh, high quality and piping hot

Very friendly staff (I think an older woman, waitress, and her mother, cook). When I was there, it was a little too warm inside, so I only stayed long enough to eat. I tried the tuna fry set (まぐろフライ定食), and my brother tried the horse mackerel set (あじフライ定食). The sets were simple, but good for a quick lunch. We also tried the buttered eggplant, which was light and went well with the deep fried fish. I only saw a Japanese menu, but other reviews here on Google state there is an English menu, too.

Absolutely loved the food here! It was our first time in Hakone and most restaurants were turning us away for dinner. However, we stopped by Futaba and were immediately welcomed with open arms! The owners and staff were so friendly, and made it feel like an authentic home cooked meal. I ordered the pork cutlet set (as pictured), which came with a miso soup and pickled vegetables. I also ordered the grilled eggplants. Both items were delicious. I would love to come back one day!
